Tribal Class Destroyer Pack
« on: December 25, 2010, 10:50:57 AM »

The Tribal class was one of the most numerous Royal Navy destroyers in WWII.
27 built of which 16 served in the RN, 8 in the Canadian Navy and 3 in the Australian Navy.
Of the 16 ships serving with the Royal Navy only 4 survived the war.

Armament initially:
8x120mm twin turrets
1 Quad 40mm AA
2 Quad 12.7mm AA

HMS Matabele

HMS Matabele was commissioned in February 1939 and during WWII served in the North Sea, Atlantic and off Norway, seeing a considerable amount of action. On the 17 February 1942, she was torpedoed by U-454 while escorting the Russian bound Convoy PQ-8, and sank rapidly. Only 2 of her crew survived long enough in the freezing waters to be rescued.

HMS Cossack

HMS Cossack was commissioned in June 1938 and saw action in Norway and the North Atlantic including attacks on the Bismarck. Sunk in October 1941 with the loss of 159 crew after being struck by a torpedo.

HMS Nubian

HMS Nubian was commissioned in October 1938 and during WWII served in many campaigns gaining 13 battle honours, a total only exceeded by one other ship. Involved in actions in Norway, Crete, Malta, Arctic and Burma. Survived the war.

HMS Tartar

HMS Tartar was commissioned in March 1939. Active with the Home Fleet in the North Atlantic, North Sea and English Channel. Also served in the Mediterranean and Far East. Survived the war.

Updated Nov 2015 - To remove flickering shadows.
Added new skins by vpmedia

There are still a number of bugs in this old model so I may upload another update in the future.

========================================
Pack has been tested with SAS ModActivator 2.5beta
Do not overwrite the class files if HMS Warspite has been installed first.

Extract to a temporary folder and follow the instructions included alongside the ShipAshe folder.
(I have noticed that an old set of the instructions was include in the ShipAshe folder. Do not use the old version. -- This has now been corrected.)
ShipPack2 is not needed but does not conflict if installed.
If HMS Matabele has previously been installed it will be over written.
Ensure that there are not duplicate entries for HMS Matabele in the ini and properties files.

A further two skins, HMCS Haida and HMS Eskimo were being worked on by Goshikisen but it is not certain that these will be completed.

What have you changed since you last loaded the Cossack?

ships.ini is being read. That is what is producing the error.
Check the HMSCossack folder in ShipAshe. Is it enabled?

I guess the ship names appear ok in the drop down menu, so the class files are being read correctly?

I had a look at my ShipAshe folder and the Tribal class were gone! I must have removed them sometime earlier (I recall I had them installed independently as 'WIPShipAshe'). Anyway, I red/loaded the mod, installed them inside my ShipAshe folder (did not install the clasfiles as I have the Warspite) and they are back, all of them!!!! Many thanks Ashe, for your prompt response. Best wishes for the year, again, 8) 8) 8) 8)

These are great ships.
An upgrade suggestion would be to replace X turret with a 4 inch twin as was done with nearly all Tribals in '41 while later many had all 4 turrets replaced by the smaller, but AA capable caliber.

Very welcome addition, considering the size and power of the RN in WW2 its always been under-represented in the il-2 series.

I'm glad that you are enjoying these. The RN is now reasonably represented in IL-2 with two BB types, two CV types, two DD types and one CL.  Still lots to do but they are now represented better than most of the other navies.

I have various other RN projects "on the stocks" but for the moment its the USN that is getting attention.
