I do too. In the readme of this pack there are some very disrespectful commentaries about Japancat that I dislike.

It is not so simple I am afraid.

The Ki44 model was made by Japancat and offered to TD, to be included in an official future IL2 patch. He shared an early Beta with Tainan. JC asked Tainan to not work on the very old beta they had from him any further, because the models was meant for TD.

We all expected them to respect this, since this is a team who have steadfastly refused SAS or UP any permissions to use anything they ever made, and we have, from our side, respected them and their answers.

The claim in the readme, that they only used the L0 model (that is the main 3d model) from JC, and made all the rest themselves (85% according to them), does not convince us. I feel, if you are that hot at 3d, and you knew there was going to be a problem with the release of the thing permission wise, why not go ahead and do it from scratch (if you only had to redo "15%")?

In any event, if a guy (especially from the ide of TD) actualy asks you to NOT use his model, and you go ahead and "use only 15%"...what is that? Like saying it is not rape because you only put the tip in?

Weirdness...

We are very sad and dissappointed that this has happened, and that we are now forced to be in a position where we can no longer respect the wishes of Tainan to not use any elements from their pack. We are talking to guys from TD and Japancat about the Ki44 and what to do next about it. We are also discussing the rest of the pack, now that the "rules" have changed, and what parts of it would be usefull to SAS and other users.

For those interested, here is and extract of the Ki44 readme included with this pack:

Quote
/////// Abaout Ki-44 (TOJO)  ///////

Higuys!
I am a chief of Tainan-kosho, Ryu.

Here we have the Shoki:Tojo which someone never finished. Do you remember who does it?
I believe I can show you our team-work power to publicize this model.

So, now, ladies and gentlemen! ...oh, maybe, no ladies are here?
This is the Shoki Ki-44 by Tainan-kosho.

Actually, outlook cosmetic model is based on SOMEONE's model, but all distance models and damaging models are made by Tainan-kosho except L0 model.
We found many of wrong objects like collision hooks which doesn't work inside IL2, then we had to add, delete, re-edit these objects to fit codes.

I think "his contribution" for 3D modeling is under 15% as maximum, then I do NOT admit that he is a 3D modeler of this Shoki.
But I also think he "cooperated" with us, then include his name in our credit as a "cooperator".

I publicize it now and would like to say many thanks to our team members, need some more correction on L0 model though.

....

have a fun!

Ryu
Tainan-kosho

/////// Credit ///////

Production : Tainan-kosho (3D model,Texture,Flight model,JAVA,Others)
Cooperator : Japancat (a part of 3D model)

This readme, since we are mostly grown men here, and can be honest with each other, is realy a thinly disguised way of saying "fuck you".
I think we can all agree on that.

Japancat is a good friend (I did the early 109s with him), a senior member of SAS, and accociate of TD, and we in turn try our best to be on good terms with TD and UP and everyone else, and so, whether I want this or not (and I DONT), I am now locked inside this cell with Tainan.

Or perhaps, they are locked inside this cell with me...

and yes, there are no ladies here.

CirX, once again you are the voice of wisdom. I trust you and JapanCat. I sincerely hope this sordid story will have a reasonable ending. I feel this readme is a shame ! Obviously the Tainan Kosho team are talented modders, I don't understand such an attitude (and it's not the first time  >:().

I'm very grateful to Japancat for all the great work he has done and the good character that he has always shown.  I too am happy to support JC in this.
It is interesting that Tainan are so concerned about people taking "their" work.  Thieves often expect others to do the same as they.  From what I saw of rest of the mod pack,  the ki44 was the only part with any quality.  The rest was poor beta with dodgy textures.

Thanks all

I do not stop MOD manufacture

I made all 3D model for Ki44.

Model from L0 - L4, hook, Java code collision, and shadow from L0 all L4

It used it for six months or more.

Tainan is imp0lite, and the Tainan is lie addition and a thief.

I'll never forgive!!!

Wow, I was never really someone who went out of my way to use their stuff because of the whole "No UP or SAS" line of things.  This just puts a nail in the coffin.  Your work has always been awesome JC, you made the 109 amazingly sexier, and your work with the Ki's was also amazing. We're lucky and thankful to have you as a modder and I wish you the best on your work, and hope this gets resolved soon.

I was going to stay out of this, but seeing the Read-Me for the latest pack made me change my mind. When you reference someone else's work, especially without permission, no matter how small may it be, with "this guy", "someone" and so forth, it's disgusting. I've modded for quite a few games, I've textured for Il-2 and I've never done this. Hell, I ever reference books and articles I use as a source in my textures. Credit must always be given, out of sheer politeness, if nothing else.

Anyway, we all know the quality of JapanCat's work and he'll always get the deserved credit and respect here. Thanks for your great models, JC, and keep on modding!

They seem to have withdrawn the D/L on their site.
