But one must also remember: We are the human race, and people are wildly different, and some of them are also completely crazy, and you have to be at peace with that and not forget that crazy has led to as many good things in the world as bad. This is true of IL2 as well. Some of the weirdest people have made some of the best contributions over the years. So when people go bat shit crazy, we can usually just sit on the sidelines and hope that some good stuff for the game comes out of it. But once in a while a little bit of bat shit can fall on one's shirt of course.  :D

To continue with the philosophical trend, let's quote Descartes

"The man is half-angel, half-beast; whoever pushes the angel, pushes the beast"

For every splendid IL2 site, you will have an opposite controversial site: sad but real-life proven.

But I must disagree with CirX
"Just fly and mod. WTF else are we here for? :D"  What about beer???  ;)

My ring tone is ....

"Beer is good, Beer is good, let's go drink some BEEEEEEERRRRRRR"

To a heavy metal beat.

Stirring shit seems to be their true hobby. SAS has rightly shunned such activity.

Yes, I've noticed this in a lot of places. Some defective individuals love to cause trouble, it seems to be their sole purpose in life.

Well we should all think ourselves very lucky SAS is policed properly, and also that we aren't Call of Duty fanatics.

I gave up playing COD online along time ago because I was sick of pre-pubescent teenagers swearing at me for shooting them, pretending to be having sex while playing the game, and sending hateful messages every time they lose.

The occasional arsehole causing problems here is very tame in comparison.

That is probably because some very good admin people here work constantly behind the scenes to ensure that the "occasional arsehole" never gets a second bite at the cherry.

Was this only on my side or was SAS down for a very short while?

Edit: problem was on my side, no need to panic :-[

"some" claim that SAS "stole the tiger cat" and "lied about changing things" just because "The SAS is about to die and needs 'our' mod to survive"

wtf?

SAS Made the MiG 21, F-16, G3M nell, Spiteful, Seafang, etc just to name a few.... what did "others" make in the meantime that is truly noteworthy and not a variation of another aircraft? What type of lie/"justification" is that?

Not stirring shit, just saying it how it is.... So much argument and false assumptions for such a stupid misunderstanding.  :(

Can't we all just get along?

Basically it doesn't matter where mods are create, as well as it doesn't matter how many or in what timeframe.
What really matters is that there is modding, be it creating, improving or whatever kind of modding else.

Here at SAS we don't follow the "copyright" claims entertained elsewhere.
We know that we're all pirates by nature, after all we mod a game that according to it's EULA prohibits decompilation and modifications to it.
That makes any "copyright" claims of anything derived from or made for it silly in themselves.
That argument or whatever else in this direction is being discussed elsewhere is therefore pointless in our eyes.
Others might think different, here it's our rules of doing "our" (read: All users) business of modding.

Personally I'm not a big fan of "I did more/better/whatever than you" type of comparisons (not to name it p*ssing contests).
Modding is an absolute thing:
If it's done, it's good.
Wherever, by whoever, why ever, in whatever way, as long as some basic rules of common sense are followed.

Best regards - Mike

What he/they did is exactly the same as hacking into your facebook, twitter, or on line banking account stealing vital personal information/files that were stored in a secure website.

This is outright theft.  >:(

No one deserves this nasty violation /criminality in any form concerning this hobby.

This is outright disgusting  >:(

What a shame. No more needs to said about the action itself, so this is just another post in support of the amazing SAS team. It's been years since I've been able to fly Il-2 regularly, and yet I stop in here most days I can. The atmosphere is consistently pleasant, the modding consistently mind-blowing in its ambition and, well, that screenshot thread had me crying 'foul!' every time - just too good! It's a real joy to come here and catch up with what's going on.

It's fundamentally down to the forum mods and the work they do. Cheers gents, your integrity steering this site is impeccable. Keep up the good work.

Such a shame that some individuals do these kind of things anywhere, especially here at SAS, where so much has been done to further the pleasure of members and the wider community who use their IL-2 game in its modded form. :(

Most of the projects here ultimately find their way into the public threads where everyone is free to use and enjoy them, those that remain behind the scenes should be left there until their authors are happy to release them not stolen by individuals to further their own ends.

Thankfully the multitude of individuals here who have access to other parts of the site respect the right of other members and observe the site policy of leaving things where they are until the author decides to share them.

Great to know that the admin team is constantly trying to stop such criminal violations of the site, congratulations guys, your efforts are greatly appreciated. 8)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.  ;D

Dear all,

It's time to ring down the curtain on this affair.
Behind the scenes we've had a lot of talks between the SAS Editors, the person in question abusing an Editor account and others involved.
The "hacker" admitted his activities, begged for our pardon and offered a full apology which you can find below.
It turns out that pursuing further legal activities against him would see no winners and would eventually just destroy the prospects of a young life.
As it has been pointed out before already, we're not aiming for retaliation, therefore we eventually decided to drop all legal charges against him.

Please find the apology as follows:
Quote
Dear members of the IL2 SAS community, I'm sure many of you know, that for the past month or so now, I have been accessing an SAS editor's account without authorization.

I had found the username and password on a passwords sharing website. Originally, I had planned to inform the editor about this. However. I let my personal dislike and mischief take over, and began a daily hacking spree.

I read PMs, laughed at posts, downloaded internal WIPs. However, the action regret the most, would be the following 2 actions.

(I have the PMs relating to both events, and are willing to share)

The first is the sharing of IP addresses. On 7 September 2015, TheMisfit uploaded the Tigercat mod, modified and improved from the FM site. I immediately went to share that TheMisfit, and one of the site editors had the same IP address to both Barnesy12 and Ton414 from FM

The second is the sharing of the P-51X. Somehow or rather, the FM members caught wind of my hacking, and IceEagle asked if there was anything of interest he could mess around with. I shared the link to the P-51X without hesitation.

As to were they managed to get the Mirage, Hintee and Canberra, that I have no idea. I solemnly swear that I did not share the link for those.

I know understand the severity of my actions, initially thinking it was merely a joke. I hope that the SAS community and editors can forgive my actions, and drop charges against me.

As such, I am offering up to <... edited ...> and this full public apology as compensation and for the damaged caused to the community. The apology will be posted to both FM and SAS sites.

I would also like to extend a personal apology to <... edited ...>, <... edited ...>, for causing much distress due to the illegal entry and usage of his account. I hope that the SAS team is able to pardon my actions, and not take legal action.

Lastly, I will leave the IL-2 community indefinitely, immediately followed by the removal of any works pertaining to IL-2 I have created.

I hope that the community is willing to accept this apology and in time, forgive all that I have done.

A few comments to this from our side:

You will find three edits in the apology above. This is to ensure the privacy of the persons affected.

The monetary compensation has been offered but we declined politely. We're not here to gather money from such kind of incidents.

The hacking has been strictly illegal and our great hope is that this message once and for all came across properly, without having to follow the legal way to solve it.

Besides the person who apologized with the statement given above, we note that IceEagle instigated a minor person to pursue further illegal activities.
The best way to deal with him should be pretty obvious, we for one are lucky that we got rid of him some time ago. If any proof was required to show that banning him was the only way to go, then he gave it himself more than sufficiently meanwhile.

We also note and would like to stress that there was no illegal activity recorded which would have originated from Barnesy or Ton.
It shows that both knew about the illegal origins of the illegal material and condoned further abuse and spreading of it over at FM.
That's noted.
It's not our property and after all we don't know and frankly even don't really want to know who else was involved in this. It was sufficiently disgusting to see how this matter was dealt with already, we have no need to further entertain a drama at the expense of our modding community.

In the hope that this was the first and the last time for such things to happen we would like to thank our members at SAS for their daily support and for making this a place to enjoy for every user who is searching for a a place of relaxation and mods for our beloved game.
We would also like to take this opportunity to let you know that we have taken a couple of technical measures to avoid such kind of hacking in the future.
Nothing's 100% hacking proof, but we make life as hard for hackers as we can.
At the same time, we'd like to point out that at no time anyone has or had access to your personal messages, your passwords or other confidential data. When in the above apology the hacker admits that he "read PMs" then this means he read PMs of the Editor Account he had access to. People trying to make you believe we'd have fun reading your PMs are just telling bullshit, trying to cause uncertainty in order to inflict further damage.
Now we even have an "external" hacker who can assure you that ;)

Yours sincerely

The SAS Administration
