The Source Code has arrived - Now the fun begins :)
« on: April 05, 2017, 02:19:44 AM »

Salute to All

Team Fusion Simulations is very happy to report we now have access to the Source Code, all 29.2 gb of it... !!!

Thanks to Nikolay Baryshnikov and Jason Williams for their good faith and willingness to trust TFS with this valuable piece of software.  :)

We also want to thank all those members of the community who supported us and who are welcoming CLIFFS OF DOVER back to the great IL-2 series.

As Jason said in conversation, "I got interested in Flight Sims because of my experience as part of the IL-2 community, that started me on the path to RoF and BoS."

The same goes for the members of TFS... we are all from the community, and we are all Flight Sim enthusiasts.

Lots of work ahead, but we are ready for the challenge and looking forward to providing some shiny new toys for everyone to play with.

Cheers, Team Fusion Simulations

From my point of view, TFS can work "officially" on whatever they want, as long as an SDK is created which enables the community to cooperate in an as open way as possible, meaning that it should be possible to create objects like planes, ships, houses, cars, trains etc. and of course maps, missions, effects...
If that's possible, then CoD could in fact become a legit IL-2 1946 successor from a modding community's point of view.

As long as it stays "locked", it's just another shiny toy on the shelf, already surpassed by BoS.

Best regards - Mike

Yep, this is a very good piece of news, as it is great time for CoD to become the IL2 legit successor it was meant to be, before all went down south when Oleg was pushed outside and Luthier took over and it was catastrophically released ...

Both external and in cockpit 3D (with dynamic shadows) is way better than what we have with IL2, even better, cockpitwise, I think, than what BoS proposes ...

But the prob is, there is so much to be done, in all fields, that I hope it is not too late ...

Yes, this is how I see it as well.

Completely agree. TFS now have complete control of the "official" game, but if it is to truly thrive then it must be open to "unofficial" modding too.
Restricted access will quickly stifle development.

Personally I can see Storebror point, but I do not entirely agree that COD is passed by BOS. I am a vávid flyer in BOS and I have some very mixed feelings on what is best between those two in all parts. I still give COD a better score in most things, and those I do not, I think will be fixed

I agree that CloD has a big potential but as a matter of fact, compared to BoS, it's currently - how to put it politely? - dead.
As much as I appreciate TFS' efforts, I doubt they can keep up with the pace of an officially sported game like BoS without the help of an active community like we have in IL-2 1946.
Merge the best of two worlds - official further development of a rather modern game engine together with a HUGE community offering unofficial mods for free - and you can easily beat the "official only" BoS project.
Try to do it on your own and you must fail, since in that case it's a "too few, too late" thing and we should know best where this leads to.

... yep, Mike, but BoS bosses won't let that happen as this would mean shooting a bullet in their own foot (French saying) ...  :-X

I would not hold my breath.
Be prepared to buy each and every plane, truck, cow, chicken and whatever else they come up with.

The original IL2 will never be equaled and 1C will never willingly let COD sink their BOWhatever game.

Some say fun begins, I say it ends before it started.
Gollum, Gollum.
Eat it or leave it style. Master is giving us. No, it's not ours. Why?
Smeagol isn't in da Club. Bad Smeagol.
Insert typical Gollum picture here:
I'm not jealous, TFS, have phunn modding. It's your treasure.
Best wishes
