Fw Ta-183 Design III
« on: July 05, 2012, 02:45:48 PM »

Focke-Wulf drawing number 0310252-15 dated Febuary 1945, showing the location of the main components, including the He S 011 turbojet... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinkel_HeS_011

Code: [Select]
This was the second design of the Focke-Wulf Ta 183 jet fighter. It was similar to the Ta 183 Design II, except the wings were swept back at 35 degrees and the cockpit was set farther aft. Also, the tail unit was of a more conventional design, with a curvilinear sweep of the fuselage into the vertical tail. The horizontal tail planes were mounted lower than the first design, which were placed atop the vertical fin. There were two versions of the Design III, one in which the tail curved into the fuselage (see three-view above) and another where the tail unit faired straight into the fuselage (see drawing below). The latter tail unit was meant to be interchanged with the Design II tail unit for comparison tests. Armament consisted of two MK 108 30mm cannon located in the top, forward fuselage.

                    Span: 9.5 m (31' 2")                Length: 9.1 m (29' 10.3")                Max. Speed: 965 km/h (599 mph)
Code: [Select]
The next study the PVII, did reach the full size mock up stage but due to the fact that it used too many scarce strategic materials, and was too complex, it was decided to cancel the project. This project and all the Focke-Wulf single jet engine fighter projects ( Fw PI to Fw PVII ) are listed under the heading Fw Ta 183 in "German Jet Genesis" .

Then came the emergency fighter competition in late 1944 and the need to produce a cheap rugged single jet engine fighter that used the minimum of scarce strategic materials. At this time the Fw PVI design was dusted off and presented in 2 configurations.

The Ta 183 proper is the child of the Emergency fighter program of late 1944. There were many contenders for this project, but only the Me P1101V1 was 99% complete when the war ended, and shipped to the USA after the war.

The only other one to be given the go-ahead was the project from Focke-Wulf. The Fw Ta 183.

The first Ta 183 was the (Ta 183A or Ta 183/I or Ta 183 Entwurf 2).

Detailed production drawings were ready and production was about to start just as the war ended. The first prototype Ta 183A was to be powered by the Junkers Jumo 004 turbojet with the HeS 011A turbojet to be used in production aircraft.
Based on it's aerodynamics, I think it would have a flightmodel similar to a combination between Me-262,s and Ta-183 that we have in game (there is not too many info about it, only about the already in-game version)

I think we should have this in game because we don't have that many german projects in IL-2. Those planes had good performances, at least on paper, and these planes are fun to fly.

Its a pretty cool design, but it was never built.

One very similar design which was already built and captured in the end of WW2 was
Messerschmitt P 1101.
Make a Google image search for it. Tons of images about it.

After WW2 ended, it was taken to the USA and tested and later a newer version was built and
tested - the X-5 project.

Good to see the intrest in this aircraft,In my opinion this should have been the included aircaft originally with IL-2 1946,not an engineer but its seems to me more conventional and could have been more workable in reality.
