Ilyushin Il-10 late variants
« on: October 06, 2012, 03:34:05 AM »

Post-war developments of the IL-10...first up in this request, the late production IL-10, starting from 1947, outfitted with beefed up armament (offensive- and defensive-wise):

Armament was 4 NS-23 cannons replacing the VYa/ShKAS loadout, 150 rounds each, and a B-20 cannon for the rear gunner, 150 rounds, ordnance payload remains the same.

--------------------------------------

Next up is the Il-10M, starting from 1951, with some airframe changes, an aft fin added, and the NS-23s were replaced with NR-23s, same payload capacity:

Specs comparison of the original IL-10:

Quote
wingspan: 13.4 m
length x height: 11.12 x 4.18 m
wing area: 30 sq. m
weight: 4,650 kg empty; 6,300 kg loaded
top speed: 507 km/h ASL; 551 km/h at altitude
range: 800 km

...and IL-10M :

Quote
wingspan: 14 m
length x height: 11.87 x 4.24 m
wing area: 33 sq. m
weight: 5,570 kg empty; 7,100 kg loaded
top speed:  476 km/h ASL; 512 km/h at altitude
range: 1,070 km

(sources both from airwar.ru, this and that)

Yeah that would be cool to run into one of those while you are chugging along in a Skyraider!

Wow. Is there any indication of its service history? Was it in service, or just an experimental project. I wonder if any of the performance or history is available. Looks like the Chinese were the originators. I've never heard of any combat use, but that doesn't really mean much. If it did see service, it would help justify it. That big prop looks a bit cumbersome to. I doubt this even came close to the Skyraider, as its load wasn't really that impressive to begin with, in comparison to the AD.

If it did see service in some numbers, it might be interesting in some alternate history scenarios. I wonder what other aircraft used the same turboprop. Very interesting.

regarding turboprop il-10, check link: ruslet.webnode.cz/technika/cinska-technika/letecka-technika/bombardovaci-a-bitevni-letouny/il-10-turbovrtulovy/

there is pic and brief history (czech language, so google translate for most of you). Basicly, Chinese have a problem with development of Q-5 in 1960' so consider produce turboprop il-10 instead.
