Boulton Paul Defiant?
« on: December 11, 2012, 11:58:52 AM »

Hello.
I like the Boulton Paul Defiant. I especially like its turret. I know this is in the dreaded Cliffs of Dover, so why has noone made it for proper IL2? She is a beauty! I am amazed it has not been created yet, but if it has, and I have been blind, please point me kindly in the right direction  :)

I too am a fan of this plane - but I know it has been requested and debated before. There is a view that it would not work as an AI plane because the gunners are programmed to behave defensively and the AI pilot would not therefore get into the right position to attack. However, while I accept this point (I don't have the technical knowledge to be able to say otherwise) I reckon it would be fun to fly and it was a significant aircraft in the early war and a fairly successful night fighter. I would love someone to have a crack at the BP Defiant.

It has also been said elsewhere that anything is possible with the wizardry of the modders in our community. I remember when it was said that it was not possible to have fast jets in the game. Anyway, off to fly a Sabre....

Cheers

Even if it couldn't be used by AI, it would be terrific fun to use controlled by humans online and/or offline!

Or the Fulmar as a frankenplane base as well. To my eye its profile looks a bit closer to the defiant. But I agree a nice frankenplane would work nicely. Long the live the frankenplane!

This would be a GREAT addition to il-2!! It will require new tactics for using it in a dogfight.

whaddya think?

easy prey. you ttack these with your emil, she will be a sitting duck.
useless attacker: even if done, the AI routines need to be adapted improved for the gunner to do his job properly.

I would live to see her as a target tug - and i mean no disrespect at all. that would provide her with a usefull mission- that she performed - that IL-2 could use..., and avoid her being taken as a target herself.
that way she can make a contribution to the war effort and all.
