Ki-177 - an experiment
« on: January 02, 2014, 05:20:37 PM »

I started work on this today:

Partly because I wanted a true asymmetric Japanese plane in the game, and partly because I want a testbed for some new Japanese munitions. Still WIP, i'll upload the finished result if people would like to fly it. The finished engine will be a turboprop.
The aircraft is obviously based on the stock Tony, but i've done a fair amount of 3D work so far. I can't decide on a contra-rotating or 6 bladed propeller currently though.

Interestingly, there is a grain of truth in this otherwise fictional aircraft - Richard Vogt, the engineer behind the Bv-141, Bv-194, Bv-237 etc, actually worked for Kawasaki in the 1920's-30's. You can see the planform for this aircraft in one of his original drawings:

Further, the Japanese did have an asymmetric design of their own - the Rikugen Type II and III light bombers IIRC, but these were closer the German "Zwilling" designs and I can't say I find them particularly interesting.
