He-177 A-5 F8+KP from KG 40
« on: July 05, 2014, 11:12:35 AM »

This will be my first skin upload.

This He-177 A-5/R6 operated with the 6. Staffel, II. Gruppe of KG 40, based at Bordeaux–Mérignac from late 1943, it performed anti-shipping duties using the Hs-293 guided bomb.
During the latter part of August 1944 it was captured by the French at Toulouse–Blagnac, who painted over the original markings with invasion stripes and French markings, including a french flag on the rudder.
In September 1944 it was delivered to the British, who added their own markings, and painted the rudder red. It underwent extensive testing after the war during which it impressed the allies, before being scrapped probably sometime in the 50's.

the plane seems to have had it's sides and undersides painted in light grey, and then spots of RLM 76 added on top of that.

A blank included.

My sincere thanks to the team that made the He-177 mod, especially for including an excellent template.

Comments appreciated, especially regarding improvements.

It seems that according to records it was a He-177 with the code F8+AP that was given French, and later British markings, but still the details of the camo seemed to me to match the F8+KP perfectly ...
At any rate, it seems this might not actually have been the plane the allies tested, sorry about that ...

Hi,
Have a few suggestions for HE-177 markings/camouflage schemes. I believe these are from a 3-D CGI Web site.

Hi Wurgerfan,

A blank versos of the KG 100 night camo can be found here http://freeil2modding.free-forum.net/he177-skin-of-kg-100-vt2766.html

In Boelcke's He-177 pack, posted here recently, there is a skin with that wave pattern camouflage (not sure what it is called, have seen it referred to as Wellen and Wellenmuster), although I don't know if that is a representation of that particular aircraft. Some time I myself also made a skin with that type of pattern, though not based on any historical aircraft, just because there were so few skins around for the Greif back then. I guess, if there is any interest, i could post a link to it here in a few days.
