PAPI , VASI , Mirror landing aid , IFLOLS ~ Visual landing aid
« on: November 14, 2014, 03:14:33 AM »

(original Subject was "Only eye candy ~~ PAPI!")

Today nothing works as real.
Red and white lights are static.

and BIG problem is....

The lights effects (I use the same of Runway lights) are easily seen from the behind.

How to hide them ?

Western0221;
no idea what you are referring to.  That's probably why you are not getting any responses.
You'll need to be more specific and include a screenshot if possible.

I understand him perfectly...

Well, western, try to use a light from plane (not the night red-green-white lights, but the headlight..? )

In that time
Today nothing works as real.
Red and white lights are static.
I did 3D/2D and only a SLOT as I said.
No functionable new Java codes to change colors of lights.

After 12 hours from my post, I borrow TD's Blind Landing (from 4.10.1m) codes and succeed to make PAPI lighting.
This version is US PAPI (Precision approach path indicator).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precision_approach_path_indicator
4 units with white/red lights show your glide path for landing.

Once I got the Java code, I may make more VASI (Visual approach slope indicator) -- US 2 bar , US 3 bar or Russian tri-color.

I'm searching real light units photos of Russian tri-color VASI to make its 3D model, but now no result.
I don't know what words PAPI and VASI are called in Russian, thier English wikipedia pages are not linked to Russian pages.

Next I'm trying to make a Mirror Landing Aid (field version).

It's size in sight from the end of the runway.

From the cockpit, Mirror Landing Aid is seen in very small.

Even closing here, still small.

Before touch-down.

In this time, MLA shows "a bit high".

Only in my feeling, by IL-2 1946's 3D drawing and lighting graphics engine .... it's limited, MLA or Optical landing system may not work so useful than real operation.

OMG, I`ve been meaning to ask you if your work could be applied for optical landing system, and here it is! Amazing job!

Maybe a bigger representation could be created and put to the corner of the screen with or without cockpit shown, enabled through a button, like map is, or a mirror...

This will be a great mod for carrier landing practice, especially combined with arrestor wires mod for airfields... Could it be adapted for SCB-25 Essex and Colossus class ships?

I want to listen to your opinions.

My PAPI , VASI , etc. new Stationary Objects are made as expanding from Runway Lights.
In 4.12.2m (maybe 4.11.1m also) , Runway Lights have a function On/Off themselves by set an Army color and recieved a radio command from the player.
This function is enabed in both side --- Runway lights class and core classes (Mission and Airport and ....).
My new objects are something expanding but not pure of Runway Lights class , so core classes cannot decide mine are one of Runway lights. When core classes try to change On/Off of my new objects , exception errors will occur.

If I will retouch core classes to fit my PAPI , VASI .... , then they will be OK to On/Off like Runway lights.
But retouching core classes may make another problem , conflicting to another MODs retouching the same classes , and / or future 4.13m ~later versions conflicts. Not keep compatibility to future.

So, we have to choose ONE.
a. full compatibility to all the versions , but always lighted on
b. limited compatibility in 4.12.2m , not 4.13m , but enable to select lighting On/Off
