P47 `Silver Lady'
« on: August 03, 2015, 06:58:55 AM »

Hi all
its been a while since I posted..! I am after a skin for the above P47 which was a famous `flagship' of the 56th FG 61st FS up to the end of 1944. I have a skin which is of this jug when it was flown by Leslie Smith, but became my fathers `mount' and had the modification to a `malcolm hood' and also had the kill markings removed as per the attached photo. I have the Bitmap of the original if required but would really appreciate the correct modified version of my dads thunderbolt (this was before he got his Mk `M' which became famous with his nose art which is my avatar)

Hi mate
Yes I am, the book 'out in Front' was published last September and tells his story from birth through cadet and officer school, his journey out of Poland and hist time with 55OTU, 317 & 302 squadrons finally ending up with the 56th FG eventually flying that famous Mk M thunderbolt with his personal insignia which is now so famous

Funny!!!  I've always liked the black and red "M" model and its paint scheme.... And I've always thought "Silver Lady" was one of the prettiest silver razorback jugs.... Never knew the same guy flew both!

Any luck finding a "Silver Lady" skin?  I'm looking for one now... That's how I happened onto this thread.

Found one!  Not sure who the original author is.  I downloaded a huge pack of skins and started unzipping all of them until I came across this one:

that skin is the standard guise of `Silver lady' which was named by Les Smith. he only actually flew in her twice....

I am still hoping someone can do a skin with the Malcolm hood and kills removed as the profile above so I can top out my dads collection of notable planes he flew..

any takers??

Is there a "Malcolm" hood version of the P-47? I don't think so. There is a P-51 version I've never seen a P-47, although it would be nice to have one.

The full package of the P-47 does not have a Malcolm Hood type of rounded glass .
It is only seen on the P51C-NT 3d-model.
Sorry

Check the post above and the profile in the above post. this was how she looked from August 1944 whilst with the 56th FG until Dec 1944 when she was given to the 9th AF.
my father flew her on 21 combat missions with the Malcolm hood fitted from August 44
