IL2 No-CD exe , for unmodded games
« on: September 29, 2009, 07:15:20 PM »

There are many reasons one may want to play the original unmodified IL2. And also many reasons you may want to protect your installation DVD. Especially if you are stuck donw here in South Africa where you will NOT get a replacement if your DVD drive eats it.

(And apart from that , I am of the school of thought that anti-piracy software, measures and restrictions do 0% to stop piracy, and only punishes legitmate users)

So, here is a exe file that replaces the installation stock one, and makes you able to run the unmodded game without the DVD. It works for all DVD versions as far as I know, at least 4.05 and later.

The modded game of course has always run without DVD, but that is a whole different story, isnt it?

So, this is not a mod, as much as a crack. Use it like an adult, use it at your own risk.
I have been using it for years. This no cd crack works with 4.09m .

Agreed, Silent Hunter III cost me around $150 when all was said and done, $45 for the game itself, the rest for a new DVD drive when Starforce decided to destroy mine after it decided one day that my DVD drive was evil and must be destroyed, so destroyed it.  :-\

At least it's still not as bad as needing a constant internet connection even for offline flying like a certain WWI sim I know.

How do you install the file?   It has a S7 extension to the file (IL2fb.S7) and I cannot get it to be recognised when I drop it into the folder as suggested in the first post.

SAS~CirX,
Thanks, this .exe works like a dream. I have 2 copies of Il-2 1946 (one for daily use, and one as a back-up in case the first one gets damaged), but this is very convenient (no need to put in the dvd anymore and no noise from the spinning dvd-drive).

SEE47,
All you need to do is to 'unzip' the downloaded file with 7-Zip (it's a free program, search the internet). Once you have unzipped the file you get a replacement file for your original il2fb.exe. Save your original somewhere (or rename it) and put the new il2fb.exe in the main folder of Il-2 1946. Then you can make a link to your desktop and you're ready to go ...

Regards,

I don't see why you made this. The stock game runs without CD anyway ???
