Did the engine gave up or something  ? he dropped like a fly in the last
seconds plus the smoke puff and then so quiet around .... hmmm  :-X

That was the pilot pooping his pants when he recognized that he's about to approach orthogonal to the runway. The silence afterwards was the engine stalling when the pilot's poop reached the supercharger.

L.O.L. thanks Mike  :D , I would get heart attack to see what is
ahead of me on landing approach and too late to do anything else   ;D
Can this be considered to be a gross error or some kind of technical failure ?

@ crazyflak  ;D  , I thought that lading gear will go just right through the
wings but it is surprisingly tough comparing to IL-2 P-51  8)

I was there, It was the Flying Legends airshow 2009,   The engine failed on approach and he was lucky he had enough airspeed to make it the the field.  That mustang hasnt flown since this incident. It's still being repaired

Oh  :( , engine failure , I was thinking about it from what could be seen and heard on landing approach .
In this case the pilot did pretty well  :) , it could have been much worse .

Yeh, I think they put it down to complete loss of oil pressure,   You can here the pilot feather the prop.   The reason he bounced so much is that the grass strip at duxford is elevated. You can see he hits the small ramp hence the large bounce

If not for that ground bump in front , it could have been a picture clear nice landing  :)
Still scary to get such engine failure on landing approach  ???

yeh, Especially considering that IF he had dropped short there is a very busy 6 lane motorway there....

the other 24 aircraft that were airborne all had to land on the asphalt runway.     Fortunately i've never seen a crash at an airshow but that was bloody scary to see

pretty scary there.

I watched a Yak 52 lose a main wheel during touch down at wing over wairarapa 09 it was really well handled by the pilot and they took a wheel off another yak that was there, it was jacked up, changed and was off the field after about 10 mins it was very done
