Is there per chance a similar way to change default pilot skins?

CirX

I need a little of your expert help again.  I have tga files which I have changed and now I want to change them back to tgb.  I worked out how to change the tgb into a tga last night but the reverse has me stumped, my tga file shows no extension details like the tgb does.

I imagine its simple but a step by step guide would be useful.

I dont know what OS you have, but this is how it works in WinXP:

In the tabs of the folder, click on Tools/Folder Options.
Click then on the View Tab.
Check if the entry "Hide extentions of known file types" is selected, and unselect it.

For those who find that they can't select custom skins anymore after they changed the default skin for that plane it is because you've mucked something up on the default skin ;) You must make sure that you've got the file sizes and what not all correct otherwise it can lead to those problems.

Also you should always get the alpha channel from the original default skin and put it on the new one otherwise you may find that damages don't show up correctly and previous windows disappearing on the aircraft.

OK I am now totally frustrated , LOL.
I read everything and followed the direction. I must be missing something. Here is exactly what I want to do.
I want to change the static aircraft / P-38L_Late skin to one of my skins, my skin is named is Camo_II, does my file name make a difference?
Here is my file path.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\P-38L_Late\3DO\Plane\P-38L_Late\Summer

skin1o.tga
skin1o.tgb
skin1p.tga
skin1q.tga

I set ClearCache=0  followed the direction
close IL-2 set ClearCache back to ClearCache=1
rebooted IL-2 and the default P-38L_Late is still the silver one and not mine.
Also IL-2 displays the  P-38L_Late as  P-38L,Late 1944
Help.
Thanks

Hi Zebra

The correct folder name for that plane will be 3DO/Plane/P-38L(Multi1)/Summer and 3DO/Plane/P-38L(USA)/Summer

sorry, also 3DO/Plane/P-38L(Multi1)/desert and 3DO/Plane/P-38L(USA)/desert

since all tropical island maps in the game use the desert default scheme, not summer.

Hey you guys thanks do much for helping me out, it was one of those things I wanted to put in the IL-2 movie I'm making where the default P-38-L late skins are silver and my planes are Camo so now when you drive down the flight line it looks right.
Thanks again.
I have lots more questions but not now.
