Hmmm, not sure what the problem is. Could you PM me the mission that's doing it?

First, thanks for this amazing mod, it will give me material for dozens of missions once I get it to work.

For the moment I'm experiencing the same problem as McMamba, with only "popping smoke" showing up in my MDS mission. This is using an install of UP 3 RC without anything else.

The mission has a red FAC object set near a red base towards which several blue vehicles are advancing (2 groups of tanks, 2 columns of other vehicles). I never get any report from FAC, but at some point, presumably when the vehicles are in the FAC range, the message "popping smoke" keeps showing up, without any other message and without any smoke visible.

Unfortunately, this isn't the only thing misbehaving. RESCAP objects give me grid coordinates as expected, but when I get very near, I don't get smoke effects or better direction, and when I land next to the object nothing happens, the message giving the grid section stays on and the object too. The same thing happens with SAR, except that sometime I don't even get the grid coordinates displayed (but the SAR object is visible).
I guess there are problems with UP 3 RC and this mod... By the way, I tried a complete reinstall of IL 2 + UP 3 but this didn't change anything (I also allowed the advanced options with 1.2G for IL2 and the 4GB option ticked).
I would be tempted to get rid of my UP 3 install for now just to be able to play with this mod instead. Not sure...

New report on this mod:

Just flew two missions with my buddy - one with him as server and one with me as server. Both missions used the SAR object.

Mission #1 (he as server) had one SAR object on the water surrounded by four Hidden Recon Targets with Landing checked off.

Mission #2 (me as server) had two SAR objects on the water each surrounded by four Hidden Recon Targets with Landing Checked off.

We each flew a PBY.

In Mission #1 I let him take the lead as I had flown this mission by myself and knew what to expect. I also wanted to see what messages would show at my end. Everything worked exactly as it should have with the initial message giving the grid coordinates then the "Man in water at XX O'Clock" as each of us approached the area. We each got different O'Clock messages pertinent to where each of us was in relation to the man in the water. This worked perfectly.

In Mission #2, as stated, I placed two SAR objects in the same grid - one at the NW corner and one at the SW corner. This mission did not work as well. We each got the grid coordinates message but after that things went downhill. My buddy approached his target, in the SW corner, first and got a sighting call. The call(s) were then accurate in relation to his position. I flew over the target in the NW corner but got no sighting calls at all. I landed first and watched the man in the water disappear as I came into range. No confirmation message was recieved at either end. My buddy picked his man in the water up two minutes after I did. I at my end saw the pick-up message but my buddy didn't.

In all cases the messages came up about Hidden Target complete and Red Won. However, in all cases there was no score given.

Mission #1 worked excellently online with two players. Would more than two players have the same experience as we did in the Mission #1?

We continue to test online...

Thanks for the info Plowshare. I'm surprised it worked as well as it did, frankly. I think one SAR object for online missions would probably work, but two might "cancel each other out", since they have the same message timing and such... Not sure why your recon targets aren't working.

@ptisinge, could you do me a favor and try out those missions at night? I think the problem is that there's a missing or renamed smoke effect in UP 3.0. At night the RESCAP object is supposed to use a flare instead of smoke, so that should let us know for sure... unless the flare is missing too...

Ok, the RESCAP objects are working at night but not during daytime.
At night they guide me to the grid, then more precisely, then they fire a flare and when I land next to them I get the message that they are picked up and the object disappears indeed.
At day time I get guided to the grid, also get the more precise guidance when getting close, but no smoke appear and landing next to the object has no effect on it (it stays there and continues to broadcast guidance).

I got the GCI, OBOE and arty working, simply brilliant!
But the FAC is still not working, be it at night or during daytime. At best I once got the popping smoke message (but no other guidance), but most often I don't hear anything from FAC, despite me putting them right in the middle of enemy armor. Is it possibly smoke related too then? I shall investigate installing the smoke mod, but I'll also report that this is missing or not working on the UP 3 forum.

Sounds like a problem with a missing smoke effect, since it's common to the SAR, RESCAP, and FAC objects. Not sure why it can't find the smoke effect, but try unzipping this in your MODS folder (or the UP 3.0 equivalent) just in case:

Thanks I will try this tonight and tell you the result. I'm also reporting my finding in the UP forums in parallel.

Ok CY6, it was the smoke all along: I added it to the #UP# folder and everything is working now: I see smoke, FAC reports normally, RESCAP can be picked up. Thanks for the assitance, I'll let the UP forum now as well.
