Link Shell + Ramdisk help IL2 smooth playing
« on: February 10, 2011, 05:08:20 AM »

At first, glad to find SAS site again. I also didn't play IL2 for long time for real life business. Recently, I read some posts from BIS Arma2 forum about how to play ARMA2 smoothly, find ramdisk will be very helpful for it, it indeed work! And it can also work for IL2 and all others. Because now for most PC, CPU and GPU are already powerful enough, but in most time harddisk cause micro-stutter, such as in ARMA2, SSD will helpful but not fast enough than ram. LOL

Free ramdisk software

you can move all mods into ramdisk, with link shell build link in your original install folder, which is quite simple. all ramdisks can be saved and kept as an image file in your hard disk.

;D My computer is quite old one, E6600 P965-DS3.3 8g Ram GTS450 Win7 64bit, usually keep 4G ram for system run fine, other 4G for ramdisk. That software is also quite easy for use. But please note Dataram Ramdisk don't support to build up a ramdisk as NTFS at the beginning, but you can still format a FAT32 ramdisk to NTFS, in order to make Link Shell work. If you use lot of MOD, then these data will be read ahead of default one, should be kept inside Ramdisk. Yes I use 4G IL2.exe, but I didn't find obvious improvement on FPS. In fact, Ramdisk is also not help for FPS, just speed up READ from your harddisk then keep the process smoothly, Ram is much faster than SSD and Harddisk, and don't worry frequency read/write work.
