Help finding Sabre wing fences
« on: March 04, 2011, 07:33:51 PM »

Can someone tell me where on the template to find the wing fences for the 1956 mod Sabres? Your help would be appreciated.

Can't tell, when looking at the default 56 skins they kindly provided I see 5 parts I would dig they're new. That's what I saw when dllding and first sighting the Skins. Another way is simply take an old F-86 skin and compare with a new default from 1956 Pack. But I would double check the old Templates anyway, a way is to use Adlabs panelfinder, so you see in 1956 if everything fits or where the Template needs tweaking.
But I'm at the moment in the opposite section, MiG-15/17, converting my old skins to fit the new model.
Mercedes and MiGs have the right of way. 8) My BW Sabre skins will come after that.
Here's Adlabs Panelfinder and the extension for the Panelfinder. With that handy tool, you can locate any part in your skin or get over tricky areas.

I found where it is located. It lies between the tailpipe location on the left side fuselage and the bottom right hand wing tip.

Thanks for the reply. I've used panel finder before. I always found it very confusing as you could see the same colored tiles in several places. It's a great idea and much better than nothing. I hate the way the templates in IL2 are laid out though. So haphazard, at least to my layman's understanding.

I take it you are happy now  ;)

The layout is not as haphazard as you may think. It is designed to use as much of the available area as possible.

When I do mine from scratch I also try to keep all mapped items, as near as dammit, to the same scale - this ensures consistent rivet/line thickness across the entire model - and also ensure that areas requiring text are vertical or horizontal to get cleaner edges. The actual positioning takes an age of trial and error - it is more of an art than a science ........... hope that helps.

I wasn't criticizing this particular template, or any others as much as complaining about the way the game uses them. No offense was meant to you. And yes, I am happy now.
