Saitek Pro Flight Headset... FAIL!
« on: March 27, 2011, 03:19:53 AM »

After a year and a half of use this piece of hardware has failed.  There seems to be a loose cable in the headset and the left sound goes in and out.  This is anoying to say the least.  For an expensive headset it is unforgivable.  I am dissapinted with Saitek.  I have plenty of thier stuff (X-45, X52, Saiborg ect)  In ten years I have seen a single button fail on two controllers.  That, I considered pretty good.  This headset thing, its not good sign.  What is up with quality control these days.  I unearthed my 5 year old USB Plantronics headset( I know, USB)  and it works like a charm.  Who do you think I will buying from next?

i dunno, but your post is rather moot, as all you are doing is bashing the product....there's no way of asking for help with this, obviously, and this is a tech help thread, not a products gripe forum.
posts like this don't help any of us, and we are here for solutions, not to listen to complaints - rather send your post to Saitek?

Yes Malone,  I am complaining.  I am also warning potential customers that this 100 dollar headset is crap.  In my opinion that is usefull to someone.

Appreciated Maico, I was considering one of these after a cheapy Altec Lansing pair did the same thing. Good to know that they aren't worth the money.

I find this information useful also as I wsa or am thinking of getting one. Maico did you by some chance do any research via the internet to see if your situation was an isolated occurance or more common than you knew? Just curious enough to be headed that way myself after posting this.

Maico, yes, i'm not saying you can't warn us of a crap product, but you should check out other customer reviews in general first, as ChiefRedCloud has mentioned, in case yours is an isolated incident.
i know people who have bought a dud product, myself included, where it would seem to be isolated incidents. in such a case, you can't really generalise and say it's crap altogether, it's best to check what other customers have experienced.
then it's an informed whinge, and valid. yours doesn't let us know, really, if this is a common occurence, or just a bit of bad luck on your side.  ;)

No, I just want to Winge as you put it :P  I think the headset can be repaired and I dont fault the sound quality (superb) or the rugedness of the product.  However I am unimpressed by the relaibility of the product.
Like Jonesinator, I had an old headset.  A Plantronics about six years old.  It worked just fine.  I was cought up in the look and feel of the Saitek.  I should have stayed with the old Plantronics.  That is what I am back to using now.
It is true that this is My experience. Anyone who is interested in a product this expesive should do some research.  I will however reserve the right to advise my fellow pilots of My experience with a product.  On that note. let me read some reviews...
In closing, let me say that I am "phasing" my Saitek X-52 back into play as I use the throttle with my MSFFB2.  My G940 experience is not going too well.  I am still a Saitek fan.  I will fix my Saitek Pro Headset.  But i will wear it grudgingly  8)

Very nicely put Maico. And I do feel your frustration at putting out a good chunk of change and then having it go south on you. As for the Playtonic, well I've had cheap ones and a $50 dollar one that did me well. Till ....... I accidently snapped it in two. I had been warned that the neck was weak (after I bought it, of course) and it was an error on my part. Still works hanging from my neck. I still think I might invest in a set of the Pros.
