P-51H
« on: April 11, 2011, 06:18:58 PM »

this one would be good
(and for those of you who are wondering where the dfs346 went
i removed it decided it would probably be too hard.)
any ways... the p-51h was the ultimate development of the mustang
it was lightened and had an increased horsepower engine.
this aircraft was capable of 487mph in level flight... no small accomplishment. thousand of these were ordered while the war was still on to aid in the invasion of japan.
due to the wars end however the order was slashed to just 555 airframes.
this aircraft probably never saw combat.

sorry about that one guys it was the closest to a p-51h I can find, just leave out the tip tanks, the tail hook and the folding wings.

I'd say either the P-82 or the Piper Enforcer was the ultimate Mustang, but I'd still take a P-51H! The P-51H never did see combat, though the P-82/F-82 did serve as a night fighter in Korea.
I did a profile of the H Mustang that's in the Octave Chanute Air Museum in Rantoul, Illinois a couple years ago, so I've got tons of photos if anyone needs some source material.

Speaking of source material...

the drawing was what the etf-51 may have looked like if it was produced
(I think it would have been produced out of a D model airframe though)

raises ane yebrow, or two.
mod or scratch?

edit:
zoomed on the pic. i do not think it is based on the ingame D mustang. wingtip light, smoothness and wing leading edge make me think so.
