Been reading the "Bloody Shambles" by Christopher Shores and this area is just fascinating.

Work needed:
*Maybe cut out the whole Eastern part to make smaller (no idea how to make this)
-Place the Lower Burma stuff on the full burma (any easy way), properly populating cities.
-Work on the Northern part (airfields/roads), cities...
-Ned a new set of textures (can use the stock ones for now..)

How about making a Burma Team? and finish this area properly. Its beyond my abilities. I can work on airfields.

Anyone in?

MrOblongo,

Like yourself, I have developed an interest in the air war over Burma. Of the many maps we now have in IL-2, Lower Burma and Thailand are among my list of most frequently visited. Also, I recently asked my favorite bookstore to order a copy of Christopher Shores book on the Burma Theater.

If you decide to complete the Upper Burma Map, I would like to propose the following offer of my services to help you populate the map. Specifically, I propose to populate the following 10 cities:

1. Kunming
2. Xichang
3. Panzhihua
4. Yuxi
5. Chuxiong
6. Phongsali
7. Jinghong
8. Simao
9. Mong Yang
10. Baoshan

Yes, most of those locations are on the east side of the map, which you are considering removing. Please know that I fully respect the map builder's right to decide what is included and what is left out. So, I ask that you take what I say here as simply the kindly offered suggestions of one map user based on the following reasons:

- In my opinion, China deserves more coverage among the collection of maps available in IL-2. While I realize Burma is the primary focus of the Upper Burma Map, this map does include Kunming which was a base location for the Flying Tigers.

- My computer can't handle the unified Burma Map. I am sure others will have that problem.

- There's some beautiful, rugged terrian on the east side of the map that, for me, is a lot of fun to fly over.

I worked with agracier on the Hankow Map. I am frustrated with how little there is available in the way of Asian structures among the IL-2 Objects. However, I was pleased with the outcome of the Hankow Map.

There is another suggestion I would like to offer, if I may. I recommend putting "city/village" textures at each city location. Having a grid-work of streets makes populating easier and the end product looks better, in my opinion.

Of course, if you prefer that I work on an alternate list of locations, I would have no problem with that. Also note that I have a lot of practice populating airbases.

Cheers,

Riptide

Damn, this map is so good, I'm going to have to make my brain explode by working on that tutorial about leveling ground and placing airfields.  It would be nice to have it populated, but better to have at least 10 rough airfields.
Once I figure out how to copy and level airfields, I'll work on my 200% Catalonia map, and maybe the China Starter maps.......And then my "OJ" map.

Sorry to revive such an old topic but, is anybody still working on this Upper Burma map?

I could very much use it for my AVG historical multiplayer campaign when the Flying Tigers are kicked out of Burma to Kunming, China. For now I had to stop work on my campaign as the lower burma map pretty much ends at Lashio.

I'd settle for just what is there now if someone could add the airfield at Kunming. It would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Anyone?....... anyone?
