DFS 230 Assault Glider
« on: April 29, 2011, 01:16:19 PM »

Thought I would show my WIP of the DFS 230 as its my first attempt at modding for IL2.

I have started off with a Glider first as it's easier than modeling a Bomber  :P and there also seems to be a lack of playable Gliders.

All Praise, constructive criticism and help is appreciated.

Nice idea! And since this has no engines / propellers / wheels, you can make it really smooth without exceeding the game limit  8)

Yes, a good way to start, and it is true we have very few gliders!

Would be nice to have some of the American and British gliders for the D-Day invasion and Operation MARKET GARDEN. Interesting they were overlooked.

So was the Waco CG-4 Hadrian. Lots of projects go by the wayside.

Actually, I think that there was once an official DFS230 created by 1C, but it never got into the game. If would be useful to have a German glider, since they were used on the Western front early in the war and later in the war on the Eastern Front, mostly as resupply vehicles.

Sometimes I pilot manual, and I watched as one was armed with a machine gun MG34-controlled pilot was landing or parachute and braking rockets. jsetli I'm not mistaken so ever since 1942 when he went to the landing and landed headfirst about 100m parachute opened at 12 meters, turned brake Rockets picked swoop and landed about ten feet

Cool, these were used extensively in Malta I am pretty sure and a squad of German Special forces used them to glide onto the mountain where the italian dictator Mussolini was being held to rescue him.

Willing to help this project in anyway I can!  8)

I believ that the new Zuti MDS1.13 coming out soon in the new UP3.0 will include meaningful mission roles (taking over bases/targets) for both gliders & paratroops.

No they were not. Perhaps you are thinking of Crete.

An invasion of Malta was being seriously planned but was never implemented.
If it had of been then gliders would probably have been used.
