I agree with CzechTexan. Uzin, you are working in a extremely ambitious and impressive way, but I think often you can do something that feels right than something that has the EXACT historical look - which very few know anyway...

And as a campaign builder I think it's better to have the map completely populated!

Keep up your excellent work on the Belarus map. As I've said before: it really fills a gap if you want to do Barbarossa 1941!

Thank you very much for your opinions. As for the historical look, I do not dare yet to make artistic (?)  abstraction - simplification (?) of the terrain look , which is so nice done by e.g. RedEye_Jir in the recent Spain maps, or Canonuk in his London and Paris .

As for the population, I know that there is autopopulation tool, but its results seem to me too schematic - perhaps I am not so good in its use. Nevertheless, I shall try to improve the situation.

N.B. to historism:
I am not sure if every other mapmakers know about the fact that (at least catholic) churches have their altars oriented mainly eastward, that is, their entrance, which is mostly below the chursh tower, are at the west end of the building. Perhaps this is worth to mention, lol.

Hello Uzin,

I've downloaded Your Belarus ver.1 map at once after return from my two week summer holidays.
SUPER!

If I can make some suggestions:

I haven't any knowledge about Bialystok, Grodno or Novogrudok.
But in Biala Podlaska there was object that shouldn't be forgotten when populating Your map - PWS - Podlaska Wytwórnia Samolotów (Podlasie Aircraft Works, est. 1923: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podlaska_Wytw%C3%B3rnia_Samolot%C3%B3w).
In 1936 the factory was subordinated to the PZL national concern.
Between 1923 and 1939, there were produced more than 1.500 aircrafts (licensed and own projects).
Most important types were:

PWS-A (licensed Avia BH-33),
PWS-10 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,20453.0.html),
PWS-18 (licensed Avro Tutor),
PWS-26 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,25198.0.html),
RWD-8 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1860.0.html).

The PWS factory was bombed by Luftwaffe on Sept. 4, 1939. The remains were captured by the Soviets after Sept. 17, 1939.
It doesn't exist in any form today - I can't find any bigger images of better quality:

And last two suggestions about Pinsk (because it's my favorite town on this map ;-):

- maybe to delete castle (I think it's one of Slovakia castles) - there never wasn't such kind of a building in Pinsk (there is only Palace fom XVIII century - "Palac Butrymowiczów" http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6b/Butrymovich_Estate%2C_Pinsk_3.JPG - large image).

- I think it will be more realistic to delete wall surrounding fuel base in Pinsk.
In reality, this place was defined as "artificial island" surrounded only by the ditch (from contemporary memoirs).

- there are some buildings and trees on the railway line in Pinsk, is it possible to correct it?

Thanks again for Your work,
Best regards,
Lucas

Hi, Lucas,
your remarks are coming just in time, as I am now preparing the release of version 2 of the map, which includes winter version, too.
Many thanks to your information, errors will be corrected immediately.

You're making a great work in this map. Your effort in research and populating is much appreciated. Even though I know no place in Belarus, they all look really good for the profane.
Only a little remark about what you said of catholic churches in your previous posts. That orientation E-W is correct for ancient foundation churches, built in new foundation places. For more recent ones, built in an already existing town, for instance, from Renascence on, orientation is mainly influenced by town layout, and front doors and facades are facing a street or square no matter wich direction. You can check it in any big town of city with Google or Flashearth.
Thank you for this great work.

Hi, juanmalapuente,
you are quite right as it concerns Il2 cities made historically true . Perhaps it would be nice to keep the rule at least as it concerns default Il2 cities. Some sixty years ago, being young scout, I was teached to qualifying guess of the eastside  in the terrain , besides of other means, by the orientation of churches, lol.  ;)
