While working on UP3/DBW, we have gotten a fixed up new 3d model of the I-15_m from Birdman, modeled by Ivan750. It is very good, and a great imporvement. But I cannot find skins for it, or a template, and need help, because the one default skin it has, is not good enough.

CirX, I have some skins for this model (I´m not sure if is exactly the same model) but If you want I can linked in the I-15´s Patrulla Azul thread, or open a new thread...In the same way, I can made a russian version, wherever...

Is this one the plane piloted by the son of Negrín?

Hi CirX,

JapanCat sent us a copy of his void file for the A6M, and I have copies of the UV mapping for all the 3D models...been working on a new template for it the last couple of days. The plan is to eventually have templates for the entire family of Zero.

It's just basic lines and rivets, markings, stencils & basic lighting right now...

It's going to get the 'full treatment' and should be released publicly soon!

To be perfectly honest, I don't mind making new skins for the new Zero 3D model. I'd rather have accurate models and something new to skin...rather than have the same old stuff from 6 years ago floating around on my hard drive.

Cheers,

KC

Thanks Razor!

I do have to agree with CirX that the modelers need to share a basic template for us skinners to work with when a new 3D model for whatever aircraft gets made. JapanCat was kind enough to share his void file with us so that we could start building a template from scratch. But like CirX says, making a 'good' template takes weeks, if not months to do right. The devil is in the details, my lovelies...

Cheers,

KC

S!

I made two skins for the A6M JapanCat, using the default skins as the basis for a template. Maybe they are not as accurate as they should, but you can make corrections over time, just as updates are made in the new models. The work is long but it is possible. I hope the skins are to the satisfaction.

S!

I would put some work here as an example released lately that greatly facilitated the creation of skins. The Ha-1112 and P-61. The Ha-1112 with the map of the changes and P-61 with the complete description of the parts of the plane. This attitude serves as an example to all those who create this beautiful models. Thank SAS_Crazyflak and 101tfs the beautiful work. Sorry if I missed someone who did the same. Lately only have observed these two works.

I agree with Casey. If the new models are replaced by the old ones again, nobody will bother making skins for the new improved models. It's a vicious cycle that will bring the advancement of aircraft 3d to a grinding halt. If IL2 starts to stagnate like this it will eventually cause many people to leave the IL2 community and move on to other sims with better 3d models. We need to look to the future and accept the new better 3D models so that people will actually make more skins for them.

For those that are looking for skins for the new Zeros, have a look here:

Edit (09-04-2014):

We now have a complete set of beautiful templates for JapanCat's A6M Zeros available to the entire IL-2 community!  :)
These templates were made by eMeL and he has done an absolute terrific job on them!
eMeL's excellent A6M Zero templates can be found for download here:
