There is something terribly wrong....
« on: July 04, 2011, 06:26:17 AM »

....with my calendar: it shows July 4th, and I've got my Christmas presents: DBW with the AI mod!!!
I'm as happy as a 5 year old kid at the foot of the gift-covered Christmas tree.

But seriously, how come I can enjoy my long-awaited dream sim at such an unexpected season?
Two possibilities:
a) I fell into a time-warp and it is really Christmas
b) CirX, HaDeS and all the modders are runaways elves from Santa's sweatshop

I checked option a) with my boss by asking for my Christmas bonus: according to the way he kicked me out of his office, we are really July 4th.
So, the only plausible answer is that a bunch of dissatisfied non-human, vertically-challenged benevolent beings (lead by CirX and HaDeS) left Santa to set their own shop to give joy and happiness to us poor flight simmers.

Now, I'm a very law-abiding citizen, and all runaways slaves must be returned to their lawful owners. And there is a handsome reward to turn these outlaws modders in: a standard edition DVD of Cliffs of Dover (30-days trial limited). Very tempting indeed....

But wait; let us not be too hasty....After all, these modders elves are hard-working, give all, ask for nothing and withstand abuse without complaining....yeah, they might still be useful, maybe for an UP4, if there is such a thing as a mightier flightsim than UP3. So better not blow their cover...for now.

There is still an enigma: where does Oleg fit in?
Hummm.... he must be a white mage that has been trapped by some very evil forces. Can't see another explanation.

Enough brain-work; time to grab a cool beverage, sit at my desk and do some serious DBW flying.

One more thing...
Just out of curiosity, Cirx, elf to man, can you tell me what it was like working for Santa's chain-gang?

Hmm...the updated AI mod for 4.10.1 isn't in DBW yet is it?  If it is I really need to update it.  Though I've noticed from flying a bit in the first version of DBW that the AI seemed a bit less obnoxious and prone to endless barrel rolls as in the stock game or UP3, but I could have been imagining things.

the updated AI mod is in final testing phase - barring any issues, it should be available in the next couple of days... ;)

I know it's beta, but the AI in DBW 1.1 is still a huge improvement over the stock AI; no more predictable barrels rolls, and the gunners are no more sniper aces.
For an offliner like me, it makes all the difference.
The only bug I have seen, is that fighter-bombers do not drop their bombs if engaged, but stay in formation like bombers: a real turkey shoot. Not realistic at all, but I guess the final version will see to that.

Thanks again to all that made UP3 / DBW a reality and not just another forum fantasy.
