DBW 1.4 BF109E cockpit view
« on: August 03, 2011, 06:51:19 PM »

I think I may have a problem with my 1.4 install.
The POV in the canopy has the pilot off center to the right.
I understand that the POV was changed so that the pilot sits much lower than before, but is it also off center?

No that just centers on the gunsite as normal.
This is like the pilots leaning to the right.

I think it's the POV mod which show a more little bit of the reticle in non aim view.

I think it's the POV mod which show a more little bit of the reticle in non aim view.
I think so too, and it kinda sucks for TrackIR users. We can just lean over to see the reticle.
Not that I want to sound ungrateful. This is one of the mods I never thought Id see with the correct canopy for the E3, but the POV...
Also, can someone post up a pilots eye view of the 109 cockpit? I cant find any online.

EDIT: Tried adding my old POV's and it has no effect...strange...
Also seems to be incompatible with Grief11's cockpit repaint for the most part.

are you using the optional POV mod, with track IR? if so, it is not recomended (as it says in the discription in jsgme)

if you are talking about the default POV, please post a screenshot to explain what you mean.

and also then, please please please when making reports, be specific, there are a lot of Bf109E's in the game.

No, thats the weird part with your POV mod activated I actually had a better view.
Ok here are the screen shots.
This is with track IR off, so there is no chance that I screwed it up by leaning and effecting the POV.
Here is a shot looking at the floor, you can see the lip of the seat even with the bottom of the picture, but significantly off to the side. note that the stick is off to the left, and that while the right side canopy frame is in the picture the left is not.

Here pan the camera up a shot distance. Again the stick is off to the left and th right canopy fame is apparant, making it look like the POV is off center.

And here. Facing level forward.

Just to eliminate all question that I may be in gunsite view, here is the view with Shift F1 toggled.

EDIT: Of course Cirx, sorry, this is for all BF109's E-3 and prior. I haven't checked the others.
I'm sorry Cirx, I really don't mean to bitch and that's not how I want to come off. I really appreciate what you've done here for the old 109, its a huge achievement in my eyes.

but dude....all the E series and F series 109s are offset like that in the centre view. Always have been. I include screenshots of the E4 and F4 from the stock 4.101 game to illustrate:

So, this is hardly a new issue, and not one introduced by the new canopy of the early 109s. Perhaps you just notice it now because the frame is different.
We can of course improve it, it has just never bothered me before. And hardly "significantly off to the side" lol  :D

Ill sort it out for a future build. It is actualy good of you to point it out (and you are right, it should be fixed, one of the hundred and one flops of the game that has alwasy slipped through the cracks), just not completely fair to blame right it away on the new canopy, which has nothing to do with it realy.

It is not a difficult fix. But you cannot blame me for being grumpy when a mistake that has been in the game for years gets blamed on a mod we just spent 5 months working on. ;)

Then, here is what you were asking for, pilot eye view from the cockpit of an E3. I took these personally, (and was sitting on a parachute-substitute before anyone asks again).

regular in cockpit:

pilot view (and yes, a little bit off centre :P )

lean to left and look out the right:

initial research for "taxi view" mods:

Fuck me I feel stupid.
Your right of course. Its just been so long since I played the stock game that I forgot it was there. And then for just about the entire time Ive been using mods in IL2 I have had a POV pack that I guess corrected it. When It didn't work with build 1.4 the off center view hit me like a ton of bricks
Damn, my bad Cirx!
And thanks for the pictures. So the pilot really couldn't see any of the engine cowling in front of him, not even the bulges above the machine guns?
I don't like it, it cant be correct! the E-3 your taking pics from was porked!

No, you can see the cowling quite clearly, the shot I posted above is aiming height, when we took those the project was about the Revi12 bracketing, so the measurement for the camera was up where the reticle should more or less have been. If you sit up straight (of which I unfortunately did not take a shot) the nose is right there and at the very least the MG bulges are clearly visible.

Also when Vtrelut was in SA, I made him also sit in the Fw190, and asked him to note what he saw from the cockpit. There is absolutely no bar (level transition from dash to engine cover), and you can clearly see the whole cowling. Also, the winscreen frames are about 40% thinner in real life than in game.

So dont worry. The POV mods I made are a little exagerrated because their primary aim is to make up for the deficiency in peripheral view of a screen, but the positions themselves are not entirely sucked from my thumbs.

I'm sure Cirx, and I cant wait to see the fixed POV when you get around to it.
For now Ill just adjust it via track IR. Poor poor me  ::)
For the life of me though I don't understand why my old POV mods that work with UP3 wont work here with this new canopy. Was it so fundamental a change that everything made before is now kaput, rather than a repaint?

This is offtopic, but what is the sfs-file where i can find the BodyE3.msh? I can see it in filelist but cannot find it anywhere.  Because i want to make gunsight views like in the pic.

As you can see normal E body works with BCD models but not with E3,E1.

EDIT: solved, i forget to import bld 1.4 filelist.
