DBW B-24D "Lady B Good"
« on: August 04, 2011, 04:38:53 PM »

CirX and all involved,

Thanx so much for the inclusion of the "D" in DBW4.  It means a whole lot to me; the beginning of my fascination with WWII aircraft.  I was an "Air Force Brat" and feel a need to relate this.

Izmir, Turkey, 1963:  I was 5.  My brother (3 yrs) dislocated his elbow and in Izmir they were not capable, at the  USAF dispensery, to fix it.  My Dad and I accompanied the boy to Wheelus AFB in Tripoli, Libya.  While they operated on my brother, my Old Man took me out to the main gate where there was a propeller mounted as a monument at the entrance to the base.  It was a prop from the "Lady B Good", just recently located in the southern Libyan desert, by Standard Oil prospectors.  I have been a freak ever since.

A quick google will reveal what is, to me still, the penultimate Liberator story.  I have not been able to locate a skin for her, yet.  Maybe I am blind.

I last heard of the air transportable hospital from Wheelus being located in U-Tapao, Thailand in 1975.  The complete story of the "Lady" was finally revealed just about the same time.  It has stuck with me.

Again, thanks to everyone involved.

Cheers and all the best,
Gubi

Since I made all the default skins for B24's and this one and in FBDSM, I can do this no problem. All I need is some good references (profiles and such) and a clear drawing of the noseart. Even a skin from another sim would be veru usefull. The noseart and inscriptions on both sides is the main problem. If I can get it in colour I can do the skin.

As far as I can ascertain this is as close as you can get to what she actually looked like before she went down.Skin now up in USA skin section.

Anyone remember the Monogram diorama profile by Shep Paine that came with the 1/48 kit? I think I still have it, I'll have to see if I can dig it up.
