Requests to turn the runway lights on ignored
« on: October 03, 2011, 02:50:35 AM »

I don't know whether or not this is a DBW problem, but I've found my requests to have the runways lights turned on have been ignored recently. I've experienced this even when there are no enemy objects included in the mission. Note that I do change each light's properties to the army for which I am flying. Has anyone else had a problem getting the tower to turn the runway lights on?

On another subject, does anyone know if it is possible to get the original night lighting conditions back in the game? Originally, you could at least see a difference between the sky and the ground at night in IL-2. Now, flying at night is like traveling through an ocean of black coffee, except for when you can get the guy in the tower to turn the runway lights on.

Cheers,

Riptide

At least in my QMB missions I ignored this option, I don't fly blind or at night, my missions are for Daywalkers only.
Fly-by-sight only.
In my point of view this should not be a from the box QMB delivery, but handled the way it is.
Moles(Blind-Flying Navigation) or Owls(Nightfighters) can place these objects if they need.
The last official Patch Read Me gives advice how to place these objects needed. Or just peak into these Sample-Single Missions of DT in your Single folder.
Without us Missionbuilders you all would need to add this yourself too, makes no difference. This was an optional feature planned to be used by Player himself.

If it's too dark or conditions too bad, I don't take off.

Malone,

Yes, runway lights were included. I built the missions in question and that's what I was referring when I said, "Note that I do change each light's properties to the army for which I am flying.".

95% of the time I take off in IL-2 it's pitch black dark night.  :P ;)

Not at all.
Although there is one instance where I think I remember asking for rwy lights (on the ground, lined up for t/o) and no reaction from the tower. However, next time I loaded the mission everything was fine, so I didn't do any further inverstigation. Not 100% about the incident though. Maybe post some more info about how it happened (map, a/c, mods etc.). Or just PM the mis file and I will see if I can at least recreate your problem.

Cheers

well, riptide said: "I've experienced this even when there are no enemy objects included in the mission. Note that I do change each light's properties to the army for which I am flying."
So army and enemy can be ruled out.

I don't have exact numbers, but near means something between 3-5km from my experience. When there is a Lorenz beacon at the field I usually ask for lights when just past the OM and this is certainly close enough. Unless there are enemies around the christmas tree lights up.

Guys,

I really appreciate the input on this :).

In my case, I created the mission in FMB, not QMB. I was within 1 to 2 kms of the field when I made the request and when building the mission, I did change the "ownership" of all runway lights to my army's color. So, why my requests for lights was ignored remains an unknown.

Gerax,

I've uploaded three missions:

1) BayofBiscay_Night.mis - request for runway lights ignored

2) Circus_P-47_Night-II.mis - request for runway lights ignored

3) 440405-2000-B-25-WOI - request for runway lights granted - I created this mission today after reading your response. It may be that the runway lights feature only works on certain maps. In this case, it worked on War Over Italy but fail to do so on Bay of Biscay and Circus.

You can download these mission files at Gamefront:

I think I figured this one out, as I too had the same problem.
Set all the lights to your team's color on the airfield. Then place a 'Home base' marker down so that it encompasses the airfield and the lights.
