JU-52 FMB show plane Bug
« on: October 07, 2011, 10:51:11 AM »

I post this here because it's not an AI bug. Has anybody this problem when using JU-52 in FMB?

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
When you introduce the JU-52 in the map, make changes in properties and waypoint, no problem. But when you try to enter the "plane" page to pilot it or just change the skin, the window congelate like that and you have to end the game.
I had the same problem with SAS modact 3 since I installed Ranwers JU-52/3m, so I thought I had messed something during mod installation. Now I have made a looot of clean installs to get to DBW (stock+4.101, UP3, DBW in all its versions) I checked in all and every version and no...it's not corrected. :'(
Obviously this doesn't happen when you have only the stock JU-52/4m and 5m.
Any ideas will be welcome.

Then there likely is some mesh in Ju-52/3m that has binary data removed. This old method has been used to hide some parts of meshes, but it is known to cause FMB issues. I've fixed this issue with Bf 109 B/C/D and I'll try to fix this one now. Luckily in LOGfile you can see the file that causes this issue.

I was about to fix all these errors while UP3 development, but I just ran out of time and now I'll try to fix them when they are spotted.

ah yes, the old FMB bug.
a bit annoying, maybe, but there are several ways around it, such as just changing the plane's info in the mis file.
so not that serious, but hopefully it can be addressed by Birdman, or one of the guys...;)

I sometimes get that when I use the P-24 in the FMB.  I assumed it was because the FMB did not like something in the P-24's files.   I've never had any problem with a Ju-52.   I did notice that this condition seems only appears when I am editing a mission. I don't recall having it happen when I first create the mission.   I've learned to back up my P-24 missions before I edit them so if they get screwed up I haven't lost them.

I usually have to use the "Tab-Alt" function to get out of it (then close the program externally), but sometimes I've been able to use the arrow keys to allow me to exit normally.   If I can get out "normally" I completely close and restart IL2 otherwise the problem is still there if I try to edit the mission again.  A few times I've even ended up with corrupt mission files.  Fortunately my backups have generally allowed me keep the mission.

Hope this helps, good luck ...TS

I've now fixed Ju 52/3m. It was similar head mesh issue as in Bf 109 B/C/D. I'm now trying to test all other planes in DBW, but it is a bit too slow since it is not just enough to scroll through plane list with 3d viewer enabled. I have to choose planes one by one and click the plane tab to crash since it seems that the issue doesn't appear when a faulty plane replaces another plane, it appears only when a faulty plane is rendered first. Now I'm fixing He 219 that is another plane causing similar crash.

OK, I've now tested and fixed all planes in DBW build 1.6.

Planes that had this FMB bug:
- Bf 109 B/C/D
- Ju 52
- He 219
- Halifax
- L-5 Sentinel
- RWD-8

You can download the attached fix and unpack it in your #DBW folder, and you shouldn't have these FMB issues anymore.

Please tell me if you still manage to get this issue somehow, for example by using some plane installed on top of DBW.

I wish you happy mission building hours!

P.S. This fix should also work with UP3 (not tested), although L-5 fix is not needed since UP3 doesn't have artillery spotter mod.

Well, this is like going to the dentist in a horrible teeth pain and come back home jumping in extasis! I don't know how to express you my gratitude Birdman  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
If I only knew before...
Of course, Thanks you all, guys, for your interest. I was pulling all those tricks but I have to recognize that that was the aspirine and this is the definitive vaccine. I hope it's as good for you as for me.
Birdman, you're simply the best, keep flying.

In case there should still be some troublemakers in your hangars, there's an 'in the field' workaround in FMB.
When creating a plane, hit 'show' on the first tab of the object window. Once the 3d preview of the plane has loaded, you won't see the FMB error as you proceed to tabs like waypoint, plane1 etc. If you however forget to hit show on the first tab, well........bail out.
