I would like to try this mod with UP3 RC4 (if possible). I have two questions about installation:

*The install instructions state....

--------------------
Installation:
1. A folder with mod to put in folder MODS.
--------------------

Question (1): UP3 RC4 does not use a MODS folder anymore. So where do we put this mod?

**The install instructions state....

--------------------
2. In file RC to add a line

@load com.maddox.rts.cmd.CmdCfg NAME cfg \
HELP cfg FULL
--------------------

Question (2): Where exactly is this line added?

1) About folder to use in UP it's named #UP# and you find it in the first UP3 release, but there would be a link around here or in UP forum (I don't remember)

2) I've added that line at the bottom of the "@load com.maddox..." list. If you don't have .rc file you'll find it openin' via sfs extractor the UP's file.sfs.

Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply.

1) I know how to use my #UP# folder so that is no problem.

2) I'm confused about this 'RC' file. In the instructions it's called 'RC' but you called it '.rc'...but isn't that the name of the extension? I really don't know what I'm looking for here. What is the name and extension of this so-called 'RC' file and exactly where can I find it? I don't see anything with an 'rc' in my IL-2 folder...except the 'rcu' file. Could that be the one?

I had some trouble conceptualizing that file file too. But it is called '.rc' - that is 'full stop/rc' / 'period/rc'

It's an unusual name indeed.

I found it in my STD folder, in #DBW, but I would guess you will find it in MODS/STD as well ...

It opens with notepad so editing is no problem.

Well, in UP3 we no longer have a MODS folder. However, there is an STD folder in my #UP# folder but I searched that and there is no rc file in there.

**I did a Windows search and it found an rc file in my HSFX folder and also my UP 2.01 folder. However, there was no rc file in my UP3 RC4 folder.

If you don't have rc file you'll find it opening via sfs extractor the UP's file.sfs (if I'm not wrong it must be there)

I installed UP3 just to have all the versions of Il-2 on my hard disk ... I mean the dozen I have now just aren't enough ... ha ha.

Anyway, in UP3 the place2B is the folder called #SAS

Just open it up, and then go to STD. You'll find the elusive little thing right there:

.../#SAS/STD/.rc

I don't have any 'place2B' or 'SAS' folders in my UP3.

**I did a Windows search and it found an rc file in my HSFX folder and also my UP 2.01 folder. However, there was no rc file in my UP3 RC4 folder. Maybe this mod is not compatible with UP3....?

HSFX ... well, that is one version I have not installed yet ...

And Place2B was obviously a shorthand joke ... sorry  ...

I can post a link to my .rc file, but I am not certain if it will be compatible with the version you are using. I have no idea how the content might change between versions.

I am also quite certain it will work with your version. It works with DBW so no reason why it should not work with UP3

Thanks for the help but I think this is not a good idea. Here's my thinking......this mod needs an rc to work. My vanilla version of UP3 did not come with an rc file. Now I am supposed to add an rc file (which was not in UP3 in the first place) and then add a line to this file and then expect/hope it will enable this mod to work correctly and at the same time hope that adding a new file does not break something else?

That doesn't seem like a good idea to me. It's obvious that this mod was not made for UP3 or at the very least not tested in UP3. That's obvious just from the install instructions that say to place the mod in the 'MODS' folder when we all know the new UP3 no longer uses a 'MODS' folder.

So, I'll thank you guys again for all your help. Maybe at some point Carmaster can comment on all of this and resolve these install issues.
