This is what I did at the end. What you have to do is work manually to create different air.inis. Then you add them into a folder named like #DBW_Jets. Inside you keep all the right sequence of folders STD/com/maddox/il2/objects and inside there is the air.ini folder that you want to activate. You do it from the jsgme, and it REPLACES the previous air.ini.

So, DO AT LEAST TWO DIFFERENT #DBW_whatever folders so you can revert back to your old air.ini. It's very simple and actually I found it very practical. I think that something like that is the right way to go forward and not all this talk about deleting versions of various planes, which is in any case a retro-step. The problem is that my little mod is a custom one, I put every planes I choose to, we need to standarize it. The reason is campaign building. I don't want it to be in the initial selector, because then it needs again its own folder, but an ini selector that would load too only the relevant maps will be very welcome.

About campaing building - One of the reasons that I am opposing deleting planes, is these poor campaing builders that they spent coutless hours only to realize that some of their planes won't be available in the next version of DBW(or UP). I use now 2 different air.ini, and everything is smooth. So why not?

Would it be possible to fix the error with the map selection in the FMB for DBW and DBW 1916?

i have a similar "sounding" minor niggel....
when you open the FMB... you get the blank screen. go to File/ and move the mouse down.
first option, the "load maps" list.
normally, you click the button of "load maps" to get the list, right?
as things are now, you do not click... merley moving/hovering the cursor over the "load map" option brings up the XXXXL maps list.
and that can get on peoples nerves.
and it also makes the options below "load map" unavailable, because moving the cursor off the "map list" does not close the "map list".

to me it is of minor importance, because i know all i have to do is move the cursor to the extreme  Left:
there is a space, only a few pixels small, that can be passed to access the other options below the "load maps" button.

You can also edit the number of maps that will appear in the listing. This is done just as previously in other installs by editing the all.ini file. There are so many maps in the full listing that I am certain many will never be used by any one player.

I'm a map fanatic, but even so it was no hard task to choose about 33% to be left out. Certainly most of those old standard maps are now well below par ...

nono, its not overexpanding. i run 1920x1200, so, i got place to spare... even if "little" :D

question:
do you have to actively , like, PUSH/CLICK the button to load the map list?
thing is... i don't.
a thoughtless hover over that button, no pushing, clicking... and BOOM , da screen is all blue with black map names...
YIKES  I AM GOING BLIND :))

i don't think its a "font size" thing... its a "popup"/"reaction" thing.

Thats why I think it should be a SAS inclusion, to keep a standard that enables campaign builders etc to maintain their progress. Constantly having to go back and change things is a real bummer and truly discouraging thing for these guys.  It would be a good idea, in my opinion to break out the post war AC into a new selector choice, this enables us to keep the various planes we already have, and room to grow, and leaves a wide open space for the jets era to continue to grow as well. I would thinkk that split alone would give us alot of room to grow...but that is just my thought. I also see removing aircraft as a step backwards. We can continue to have more, and not lose anything if we truly want to. We can even do it on our own, but the whole point (i think) is that it remains a standard, so that everyone can enjoy it with minimal/no hassle gameplay and expanision... including the campaign builders.

I think doing the downsizing now, is merely going to prolong the inevitable downsizing again down the road, but expanding it into different eras, via the selector, allows everythign to stay, maintains a standard, and should provide ample room for growth going forward. It is a standard that will be expandable and should not force a nuking of previously made work. It seems a more proper course for future growth and expansion to me.

Anyways, thats all I have to say about that.

To Fokker95

I modified missions/campaigns for my own pleasure. It's incredibly time-consuming. Then after UP3.0 I saw that for one modified campaign my Mohawk IVs were not there and I realized that deleting planes suddendly is not that easy it seems in the first place.

Yes,that is the way it works ,I have to click "file" though
to get the drop down list

After that though, I just need to Hover my mouse over Load Map and the list appears
no clicking involved...

there goes...
THAT SUGGS.
:)

not me. but maybe others.

Just a question here, but will there be a fix in the 1.7 edition that will help with seeing all the maps available in FMB? when I got to it, (the FMB that is), the list only goes to the Phillipines map. I tried a fix through the jsmge that shifted the maps into east and west but when I use it, it only list to the Philly map, regardless of which, (east or west), mod I activate.

TIA

If you use CirX's 'FontMod' and PAL's 'MissionProCombo for DBW' then problem solved.

But there might be something wrong with your set up if you see the Phillipines map when you select the 'DBW maps_west' maps mod in JSGME
