CLEAN DBW Modding JGME Packs (RE-RELEASE!)
« on: December 01, 2011, 09:23:27 AM »

Hello all,

Was wondering if anyone is interested in a set of jgme packs which include a number of mod updates to DBW?

Basically, I have created "generalized" jgme "on/off" packs employing a number of mod categories:

Each jgme pack category contains collections of related mods which enhance DBW beyond its current state.  The beauty of this setup is that when DBW 1.7 or any other release is issued, you can simply deactivate these JGME mod sets to return to a clean DBW install for the associated update.  Additionally, if you wish to add additional mods or change the configuration, everything happens within these packs rather then within the vanilla DBW install.

The set has been tested and works well.  I also did not include mods which contain excessive code errors which affect FPS and game stability.

All in all, its a tight pack collection which further enhances DBW and can simply be "turned on/off" with ease though JGME.

NOTE:  To incorporate these packs a clean vanilla DBW 1.7.1 install is required.

UPDATE:  Defective Class Found:
Please delete the following class found in the LGD mod included in the #DBW_MOD_Aircraft pack  "_0_0GearDamageFX V 1.3"

F5F37ACE5B99838E

By deleting this class, the JU-88 A variants will work correctly.  (of course, be sure to disable the Aircraft pack in GME before making this edit.  Edit should occur in /jsgmemods/#DBW_MOD_Aircraft/_0_0GearDamageFX V 1.3/)

Pack Contents
#DBW_MOD_Aircraft
Code: [Select]
********************************
This CLEAN JSGME Mod pack features "aircraft" enhancements intended for a vanilla install of DBW.  Specifications for this pack are as follows
Build 20120331
********************************

DBW Version 1.7.1 CLEAN (no other mod enhancements which alter the following):
/STD/com/maddox/il2/objects/Air.ini
/STD/i18n/weapons_ru.properties
/STD/i18n/plane_ru.properties

If these files are altered in
/il2root/#DBW/STD/
then these core ini files must be reset to vanilla prior to enabling this pack.

Additionally, if you wish to further enhance your aircraft collection of mods, recommend add those enhancements directly to this pack, or another specific to aircraft which remains seperate from the core DBW install.  See the CLEAN DBW Modding JGME Packs thread found here for details on this concept.  https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,19921.0.html

Note, if you currently have the JSGME CLEAN Mod Pack #_Aircraft or any other previous Aircraft pack iteration, please remove. This comprehensive pack is intended to replace all previous aircraft packs.

Missing Credits Bin
Doh!, this bin contains any missing credits that may be discovered post release of a given pack build.  Sometimes a credit is missed, but this area will note those missing in a given readme until the next release when they can be properly added.

Simply drop contents of archive into your jsgmemods folder located in your game root directory.  Open GME application and enable packs.  Note, if you hover over a mod pack, the description text will note which individual mods are included in each pack.

Additionally, if you have a previous version of the packs, be sure to:
1)  Disable all and;
2)  Then remove them (delete or move);
3)  Paste in new set;
4)  Enable in GME and enjoy!

Note, there is a lot of content in these packs, thus when enabling, it can take a while for GME to load them all.  My system usually takes about 10 minutes to enable all in GME along with the other stock DBW 1.7 mods.  If GME appears to not be responding, do not worry, it is working and will eventually load all the packs, just give it time.  I recommend using the "Tasks..." feature in GME to create a DBW profile which includes all the mods you would like active for your DBW configuration.  Thus if you go online and fly UP3 you can easily come back to DBW by simply loading the DBW profile in GME.

NOTE, if you wish to change the configuration for any of the packs, be sure to deactivate the pack(s) in GME before modifying them.

Enjoy!

It looks utterly useful.

More so because a clean install is the base and one doesn't need to fiddle with the install itself...

great idea!

yea, the beauty of this setup is that each pack category starts with a "copy" of the vanilla DBW associated directory structure and related ini(s).  For example the Air Pack contains inis related to updates tied to aircraft only.  From this point, the user can modify these pack ini files as needed to add mods rather than touching the base vanilla DBW install.  When the pack is enabled via JGME, it "overwrites" the DBW vanilla with a copy of the vanilla plus the updates/additions.  Therefore all user changes occur in the packs located in jsgmemods folder rather than in the #DBW folder.

If something bombs your install while playing around with the mods configuration, simply disable the jsgme pack(s) to restore your vanilla config.  Then debug in the jsgme packs only.

All in all, a clean separation from the base DBW for incorporating mod additions/updates.

Is there are list of which mods are included in every set ?
Great idea.

Yes, the list is included in the GME mouse over documentation.  There are not a lot of mods, but ones that improve DBW and minimize introduction of code errors.  The concept also sets up a framework for the user to further enhance their mod configuration while maintaining a clean DBW base.  Basically, if you would like to add new mods and/or remove some of those included in this pack, you can do it all within the packs themselves and leave the core DBW vanilla.

Again, just be sure to disable all packs in GME before making any edits.

NOTES:  Additionally, when DBW 1.7 is released, the packs concept remains fluid.  Basically, the pack ini(s) themselves will likely need updated to match the vanilla changes introduced in the 1.7 release.  Thus, users will likely have to run code compares between the inis in the packs vs the updated inis in vanilla DBW to note differences and merge the packs with the core DBW.  Additionally, with 1.7 or future DBW releases, some mods in the packs may be incorporated into DBW.  For example if Carrier Crew is added to DBW, it can be removed from the Static pack.  Therefore, those mods native to a new version of DBW can be removed from the packs.

Basically, the packs are "living" and will require "gardening" with each DBW release.  If you study how the packs are organized, its pretty simple to understand the framework and continue the concept as DBW evolves.

I could do one for UP3, but as UP3 is primarily designed for "online" play and "standardized playing field," I will likely focus on DBW.  Though, if you study the framework/concept, it would be quite simple to create the same for UP. (actually, I have created a UP FOV pack, based on the DBW one, which I use on some online servers)  Basically, its simply following the directory structure chain and ensuring everything goes to the right place when the packs are enabled.  Of course, mgmt/admin ("gardening") of the pack category ini files (where applicable) is the same as what has been done in the DBW set.
