Radio beacons/NDBs: mods which cause these to fail
« on: January 02, 2012, 06:07:02 PM »

Hi all,

As with many of you, I have this common problem with radio beacons not working/having limited or unpredictable functionality but today have solved it on my current install. ;D It is entirely mod-related.

Spent some of the day trying to crack this one and I can now say I have done so successfully!  8) I will explain briefly: basically it was a process of elimination by disabling and enabling all my mods in an order. I have the latest SAS modact and buttons, and everything set up to allow radio beacon operation.

Ultimately I have personally found the following mods (all the latest versions of them, at time of writing) cause beacons to only be semi-functional or not functional at all, and in one case critical to game function:
Pablo's Cockpit Sound Effects (Beta 2): https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,19887.0.html This one freezes the game entirely whenever a NDB is selected. Landing beacons still work normally
SAS~Epervier's Do-217K-1 version 2.01: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,18856.0.html This one, as with all that follow, makes beacons completely unusable/non-selectable (no HUD messages even with all settings on) in all aircraft but the stock Bf-110G-2 (in which all NDBs and landing beacons are completely available), but does not lock up the game at all
SAS~CirX's Fw190 A-2 & A-3 ~ Uncut: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1470.0.html " " " " " "
SAS~Sani's [Test] Fw190D9 Early: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,12184.0.html " " " " " "
SAS~CirX's TBM/TBF ~ the Avengers!!!! v2.0: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,901.new.html#new " " " " " "

In my install (SAS Modact 3.06 with buttons 9.4/9.5) all the above mods must be disabled for full radio beacon functionality.  :) Guessing there is a common file somewhere?

I have also posted in the respective mod posts and I hope there can be a fix for each at some point! Nonetheless my 4.10.1 now takes advantage of all the new features and some more  8)

I would suggest maybe others post which of their mods cause these problems and maybe make this a sticky post?

The planes you are listed here are all for Il2 4.09
so there is no radio beacon!

The Do-217 is supposed to be compatible with 4.10.1, according to the post. This post is supposed to merely be informing people who might not be able to find the cause of a problem they might have with radio navigation.  :)

Hi.I have Up3 and i have one of those problems. i have all the settings correctly placed but there are no beacons, there arent even any HUD messages.
Can it be because of the Dornier? if so how can i correct it, being part of the UP3 pack and all?

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with UP3. In my SAS game the only solution to the beacon problem with regards to the Do-217 was to remove it entirely. Normally you can disable one or two appropriate class files (without making a noticeable difference to the mod).

Someone with UP3 will have to enlighten you further.  :)

EDIT: Please refer to this post for something which might be a much better solution to all the above, related to the class files (except the Do-217).
