May i ask, what software are you using?
I used "Colorize" a couple of years ago for the same purpose, i would advice it.

About the picture, I know this is WIP, but i think some spots of ground color in the lower area of the picture would be good.

That was a very short lived project, only lasted for 2 finished pictures :)

Can I ask for a brief explanation of how this is actually done in photoshop for example?
Also rock, there appears to be some sort of jacket or flying equipment on the ground which you've coloured green.  ;) Other than that it's great. Having these old photos in colour really brings them to life.  :)
