thank you all. Making ground attack campaigns, like with the sturmovik, is easier for me. Fighter vs fighter is more difficult to make because it's just more complicated with many factors to deal with. Timing of encounter, numbers of fighters, numbers of enemies, skill of each plane (ace, veteran, avg, rookie), player survivability and player's will to continue playing the missions to the end (excitement vs boredom or not getting killed too much).
I think this campaign is well-balanced in my humble opinion. During this winter time period the Russians were actually better off than the Germans due to weather problems. Even though the Germans still had more veteran pilots, the Russians were still able to match them in the air. The VVS also had some good veteran pilots remaining after the first deadly six months of the war, for example, in 55 IAP with Pokryshkin.
The Bf109F-2 ruled over all and the VVS at the Southwestern Front had mostly obsolete planes at this time, namely the I-16. The MiG was fewer in numbers but was still a good plane if flown by a good pilot. Same is true for the I-16. Luftwaffe still had some Bf109E models in service in the south in the air superiority role (III/JG77)as well as ground attack role.
The Italian Air Force was also featured in the south but playing a much lesser role.
I tried to portray all of these features in this campaign and I hope I did well with it.
This MiG mod looks great and so does the Donbass map. I thought that the Soviet offensives in fall and winter 41-42 would be great "forgotten battles" worthy of making into a campaign. It's a great combination!
