I know in North Africa P-40's would drop gear to tighten turns, and P-51's at Y-29 were doing same. My Great Uncle told me with 109, with gear down CoG changes foward, and you have to trim. No shake. Engine on other hand shake like crazy when damaged.

Stalling with 109G no shake at all near stall, you look at slats, if you fail to notice, the starboard wing will dip down. One more note, 109 gear was designed for foward airbase, gear can take enormouse punishment.

The G-14/AS I fly, gear down, nose goes down. Gearr back up, plane returns level ( no change the trim). Weak? Oh no, plenty strong. The 'splayed' design was not weakness, it was mainly for ease of transportation & maitnence. wings can be removed, gear stay in place. Another factor with splayed landing gear, more stable when on rough ground. No like P-40 with almost straight up/down strut, very unstable on rough ground while making turns. Remember, these 109 were designed for foward frontline airfield. No luxury there. The bigger 660x190 tire you see was for 500kg bombs. So tires don't rupture. 20cm tailwheel extension was for improved foward view. Most ground loops you see foto of is from to hard apply of brakes. To eager to stop. Wheel hits bump with full brake, over you go! 'Pilots Moment'.

Another thing, 109's historically take off/land much much better from grass/dirt runways, they actually more unstable on nice concrete runway. Most you see fly today, almost always from grass  ;)

Now like anyother plane, sometimes gear collapse, normal. Overall, 109 was no different then any other plane in this regard. Don't believe the 30% loss rate due to landing gear, there much more to story ;)
