« on: January 24, 2012, 10:15:31 AM »

Hey guys im new around here forum wise but I have been dling stuff from the web like UP etc.
Anyways I have been wondering if anyone could teach me the steps to making your own plane for Il 2. I know this will take a long time but I have really nothing to better and want to do something. The plane I want put In is the f-14 tomcat. Oh and I want to know how to incorporate flaps and arrestor hook etc on my plane.
Thanks for your time.  :)

It's much harder than it looks. 3D modeling is its own craft, and like any other craft it takes months of practice to get the basics and years to master.

If you want to play around with 3d modeling, try Blender (http://www.blender.org/blenderorg/blender-foundation/) - it's free and reasonably powerful.

If you're a student, faculty or staff at an educational institution, you can also get a free 3 year license for 3dsMax.

If you can, go with 3dsMax because that's the program used for IL2.

Once you have 3dsMax, follow the instructions here on how to make the model:

  http://www.smsp.org/il2/3d_modeling_bible/index.html

Tutorials on how to use 3dsMax (or Blender) to make aircraft are available on the web.

Beyond that, there are multiple tutorials on this site and on the IL2 Free Modding site on how to get the plane into the game, or how to make "Frankenplanes".

The search function is your friend.
