Piaggio P.108 heavy bomber
« on: January 25, 2012, 01:38:12 PM »

This was the only heavy Italian bomber of the war and as many of you are probably aware the Italian airforce in il2 1946 is lacking fire power in this sense with only the SM79 and the CANT 1007 (if modded). Wonder if anyone would be up for the challenge. Will try to provide interior pictures if required. Like to hear some opinions  ;D

Thanks

Just some information for those who don't know what the P.108 was  :). It was the first and only 4 engine bomber used in action by the Regia Aeronautica in the second world war and some of its most notable raids were on Gibraltar, Algeria and Sicily in the Italians vain attempts at holding the allied forces back. It would carry either 7 × 250 or 500 kg, 34 × 100 kg or 38 × 50 kg in it's internal bomb bay and had a defensive armament of 6 Breda 12.7mm machine guns with one in the nose,  one in dorsal position and 2 on each of the wings controlled remotely and a retractable ventral turret, plus 2 7.7mm Bredas in the flanks. It had a crew of 8 with two in the cockpit and 6 in gunner positions. It is also notable that if the wing armament was lost then the bomber was subject to many blind spots in it's defensive armament

just for those interested, this was also the plane that killed Bruno Mussolini, Benito Mussolini's son. It killed him when it flew too low and crashed into a house. The cockpit section was separated from the rest of the aircraft and Bruno Mussolini died of his injuries also killing 2 others and wounding 5. So if this plane comes out, the lesson is don't fly too low.

3ds max. But it takes years to learn how to make a plane.

There are a few B-17D skins to  make it look like the Piaggio P.108 at Mission 4 Today site.
A Frankenplane form the B-17D is very possible
