Guys:

I have been playing IL2 1946 for quite a while; I am patched to 4.11b; I have heard that I can download a B-26 here---flying or AI (and 'kill-able)  I don't care which....I only fly off line & I don't have anything other than patching to 4.11b.

Can anybody help me as to how to go about installing the B26?

B-26 is still on paper. It won't be available for some time if it ever is.

But its for 4.10.1, so the only way to know if it works in 4.11 is to try it!

Hi...I JUST fired it up...it's version 4.11m (?!) with no other add-ons other than the patch series; I am not very technically adept so I am only guessing. If you can talk me through it in lay-man's terms that would be great.
Like I said earlier, I don't mind if the B26 is there to fly or just AI to be shot down....

Well first off technically you have the wrong version.
In car, will detail later, but you need 4.10.1 and a mod back/activator.

Unless you use a modactivator of some type, yes.
Absolutely incompatible with the stock game.

So then...what is this 'mod-activator' you speak of? Remember I am technologically NOT adept so please use small words....

Your other option is to download either Dark Blue World (DBW) or Ultra Pack 3 (UP). These are larger packs for those of us that want lots and lots of very well done mods.

Either way with Modact or the larger packs you will be able to add what you like. Without them its not possible (for we mere mortals).

REGARDLESS: All of the above are based on a 4.10.1 version of IL2. 4.11 is yet very new, and a few enterprising individuals have gone on to experiment with getting mods working in it, but as of now none of the above options officially support 4.11.

Nope, dude...
Whats fun about this game is this:
you can install the 4.101 version (i hope you got that possibility!!!!) and copy it to a safe place for safekeeping. like a spare key for your house door.
with the "Backup" copy stored in a safe place
-you can use the 4.101 version to mess around with and put big modpacks or individual mods on top of that
-you can make another copy of the game (4.101 ) and put a patch to 4.11 in it...
-you can make as many copies of the game as you like. they will all run fine.
