Realistic Airfield Lighting v1.0 (beta)
« on: February 08, 2012, 07:22:40 AM »

NEW VERSION 1.5 available here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,23695.0.html
This version is still being kept here for 4.09ers

Realistic Airfield Lighting v1.0 (beta)

Adds new airfield lights to the game. No changes to existing lights. Fully compatible with santobr's Realistic Lighting v1.5 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,3718.0.html).
The new objects are:
-A blue airfield light, of the same type as the current red and green lights (type 2 and 3), just...well...blue ;)
-A new type of low intensity light, intended to be used for taxiway/apron lighting that is not visible from the air or great distance.
Available in red, green and blue.

Why?
In IL-2 we are faced with a dilemma. WWII airfield lights should be darkened/blacked out except for the brief periods when aircraft are on final approach. This is well represented in IL-2 since v4.10. However, once you are on the ground and lights are turned off again, there is no way to taxi to parking, at least not in a dark night, because taxiway lights are turned off as well. In reality, taxiway lights where shielded low-intensity devices, only visible from relatively short distances and low angles, that is, from the ground (http://www.flickr.com/photos/romeo66/4835683320/).

How to use these new lights?
Exactly the same way as the existing ones. The low-intensity lights can be assigned to red or blue sides as well, however the whole point of the mod is to leave them on neutral (=always on).

Installation
Put the 'TaxiLights' folder in your #DBW or #SAS folder.

santobr,
maybe we should coordinate our efforts on future light improvements and merge this package and yours into an easy to use on-stop-shop Realistic Lights v2.0. Would be fun and more user-friendly as well. What do you think?
