Question regarding upgrading DBW 1.6 to 1.7 ~SOLVED
« on: February 09, 2012, 11:44:31 PM »

I'm an offline player and quite new to the modding community, after searching a bit I found out about this amazing forum and DBW. I downloaded all DBW updates all the way up to 1.6 and have been enjoying it a lot, but I have a somewhat silly question. I installed for the first time a new plane after I already had my DBW settled up and running, so now I fear if I install 1.7 it can cause any kind of crash if I don't do it manually, for I have changed some .ini files in order to add the new plane. Can I install it like I did with the previous updates or do I need to go and do it manually, checking the .ini files?

check the ini files.

but before:
make a backup of your 1.6+modplane
read the documentation of 1.7

You have two main paths to chose from:
First path:
ermove the installed plane - read the modplane installation instructions, and reverse the steps. cutting text from ini files, and cutting folders and files.
test
install 1.7
test
re install modplane per instructions

Second path:
*forgot what i wanted to say*

get yourself a freeware application called winmerge (google it). With it you can easily compare folders for example compate your original STD folder with that of an update, and so compare each file the is different, and quickly manualy update your files with the highlighted differences in winmerge.

It is realy an essential tool I use, and I highly recommend it.
