yes, I think this is fast becoming (has become?) the foundation for missions to be built on!

Hi Monty,
I'm a newcomer to the IL-2 1946 modding scene and just wanted to thank you for this campaign. It's quite wonderful really even though I'm only at the very earliest stages. The only problem I had with the install was the Russian paratroopers load error which I've since discovered is quite famous!
I thought I'd post the solution ( which worked for me) in case anyone else has the same issue. The eloquent descrition of the solution is from SAS_Storebror ( who I've also learned is one of the stalwarts of the IL-2 1946 modding scene)!

SAS_Storebror reports thus:

    Why does setting the two TexCompress Flags in conf.ini solve the famous Paratroopers mission load error issue?

    This error ("Mission loading failed: Mesh3do/humans/Paratroopers/Russia/mono.sim not created") occurs while textures are loaded
   into your graphics card's memory. When the size of these textures exceeds the memory limits of your graphics card, mission
   loading stops with this error message.

    Why is it always the Paratroopers causing this error?

    It isn't. Forget about the error message contents, it's plain bullshit.

    So what exactly do these parameters do?

    They let your system compress the textures with a so called "S3TC" texture compression algorithm, which gives a very good
   performance and much reduced texture size with just a slightly loss of texture quality (regarding quality however the
   implementation of S3TC, depending on your graphics driver, might cause slightly frayed texture edges).

    Why do I need to set two parameters for just one thing?

    Good question. Maybe just to confuse the russians

    Joking aside, one parameter would logically do, but things are like they are, don't waste time worrying about it.

    What happens if I set just one of the two parameters?

    Simply said, it just won't do the trick. You need to set both in order to get the texture compression to work correctly.
    Okay, got it. But now I forgot the right flag parameter's names and settings...

    No problem, here you go:
    In your IL-2 game folder you'll find a file "conf.ini". Open this in notepad (or your favourite text editor) and set these
   two parameters in the section [Render_OpenGL] accordingly:
    TexCompress=2
    TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1

Not only do we have to fight the Germans but now the weather has turned bad. But we are still going forward with our attacks. Were moving our base closer to the front today.So i volunteered to fly some cargo to our new base. Hope this old gooey bird don't get lighting struck got a full load of fuel drums stowed in the back.

ACH! I'm going crazy! All these people are enjoying the crap out of this campaign and I cant even get it to work! Woe is me!  :'(

Ok, now that I've had my hissy fit  ;D, I could use some help in pointing me to whatever stupid mistake I've made. Here's what's happening;

When I start the campaign, the video works fine, then the first brief comes up fine, but I can't get into the arming screen, then when I fit fly the mission loads but all I get is blue sky. There are alarms screaming in my head telling me that this means something very specific, but I can't for the life of me remember what.

When I go to single missions I get the same on the Hurrie missions, then when I get to the P-40 missions, the plane explodes immediately! I found one of the C-47 missions and that works fine.

My first instinct was a corrupted D/L of the Mission files, so I re-D/L'd, and re-installed, but got exactly the same results.

As I'm writing here, I think I might want to try re-D/Ling the DAF mod pack in case that's causing the trouble, but it just doesn't make sense to me that it would.

Any Ideas?

Have you tried loading the first mission in FMB and flying it from there to see if it works?

Your symptom of no arming screen and blue sky sound like the a/c is not being loaded. The first mission's player a/c is a Hurricane IId, can you load it and fly it in QMB?

The P-40 exploding sounds like a weapons load-out problem, which can be on any a/c in the mission file, might even be the same Hurricane IId problem.

I don't believe it's an objects problem.

Cheers - Redfox

Thanks Red. The Hurrie does load in QMB, I haven't tried the P-40 yet.

@DD_BadAim

I had been having the same problems and discovered that in my case the issue is the L5 Sentinel.

For some reason the L5 is buggered in my install, my fix was to put the L_5A Sentinel into my Aircraft mods and then replace the L5 called for in the various mission files with it...

No more exploding planes or blue sky screens...

can i be a pain, and please ask for a mediafire link for the objects pack?
i've been trying for a couple days now, but for some reason, gamefront does not like my pc/me.
if my internet explorer doesn't crash, then the download simply starts, then ends straight away, after a few kb have been d/l'd, and it says 'download complete'.  ::)
or, actually, any other hosting site should work fine, but gamefront is a no-go with me.
tried IE, Firefox, Chrome - none of them work for this particular file...:(

LOL, why does it not surprise me that the cause has no logical connection with the effect? Oh, yeah it's a computer! :P I'm not even going to ask how you figured that one out.

Thanks for the tip, I'm off to fetch me a Stinson.
