Screenshot help...
« on: March 05, 2012, 08:55:17 PM »

I can't seem to get the game to take a screenshot for me any more. I say anymore because I used to be able to take them alot before I modded up to DBW 1.7  .    I am sure I am doing something incorrectly.

I have tried to activate the mod in JSG for screenshots JPEG to TGA. In reading the documentation I noticed it said it would save the shots in a screenshots folder instead of in the game folder, but I don't see any such folder nor any shots in the game folder either. I did search the whole game folder for the screenshot folder but I don't see it. It is not clear where it might be.

So, in despiration, I also downloaded that mod file for JPEG screenshots by SAS-CirX and tried that. Still no screenshots... but maybe it don't work in DBW.

I am sure I am doing or have done something wrong and it is only a bloody miracle that my game plays at all with the mods I have managed to apply. I am barely functional computer wise and manipulating files ain't my thing, flying the airplanes is. As many times as I have pressed the printscrn key, I should have about a hard drive full of screen shots in here somewhere.... I am confused.
Any help / guidance ya'll could give me would be very appreciated. Thankx.

Like Solo_wing_Pixy said it is called 'MyScreenshots'.
Better to disable the 'MyScreenshots as TGA v2.0' through JSGME so you have JPEG screenshots again.
Saves you some time in converting them to JPEG when you want to edit your favourite screenies.

If still no succes in making screenshots go in the main directory to a file called conf.ini and check if you see this line:
PrintScreen=ScreenShot

When another key is assigned to =Screenshot you know which one to use on your keyboard.
Or replace it with PrintScreen=ScreenShot again.
But before doing anything always backup the original.
It can't be said enough to everyone: backup backup backup.  ;)

Well, first off, Thank you to both Uuflakke and Solo_wing_Pixy for ya'lls attempt to help me... unfortunatly no joy.

1. I have been into the config.ini previously looking for something to help me and did come across that line
Printscreen=Screenshot. It was there just as we see here....

2. I went and looked in the main directory for MyScreenshots folder and it just was'nt there... So, I went ahead and
created it in the main directory thinking that perhaps that is what I needed to do. I then proceded to test for screenshots
both with the TGA mod and without it and still there is nothing anywhere.

3. I remember that when I used to be able to take shots there was a slight yet discernable lag in the computer each time
I pressed the prtscrn button. Not anymore so maybe it just ain't even taking a shot at all........ if it is they gotta be going somewhere..

This is driving me nuts....

have you tried binding another key as screenshot in the "Controls" in-game?

Also, what kind of keyboard do you have?

The keyboard is the one that came with the HP computer. I suppose I should switch it out with another and see if that key has gone bad. As for binding another key, I don't see a "screenshot" selection in the in-game controls. I did find a new one for deploy drag chute that I did'nt know was there.... would'nt that be a good screeny to take!

Could I perhaps "bind" a key in the config.ini ? I really have no idea, feelin like a complete computer noob.

well dang. I swore there was a place to bind it in-game. I guess you could try to do it in conf.ini, back up the file before you save it

Schlachthund, if you still can't find a solution for this, then i will recommend you download a little app called Fraps, designed for screenshots and recording video.
although the video part can be quite 'iffy' depending on your pc, the screenshot part works wonderfully.
i have been using it as a permanent feature on my machine for about 5 years now, without any problems.
you define a key for screenshots, then it works globally - no matter what game or software you are running, the screenshot key is the same. the screenies are also named automatically in a folder for easy reference.
i can highly recommend it, i've never had to worry about screenshots ever since first installing it. ;)

Gentlemen, I have news on this. Thankx to everyone for their consideration. Now then--

1. I actually do have Ifranview loaded up and had completely forgotten about it. I had downloaded it to play
with the srceenys I used to be able to take... and that is all I seem to be able to do with that program. It
won't actually save a new shot in the game. Of course, it is entirely likely that I have no idea how to make
it do that as I honestly don't know what the hell they are talking about in the help section. It is very much
over my head and I could not find a " press this key for a screen shot anywhere anytime " command, prompt, whatever...

2. I have three copys of IL-2 on my machine. 4.10.1 of which I made a copy and applied UP3Rc4 of which I
made another copy and applied DBW up to 1.7. As this has become somewhat of a quest for me now, I
tested  the 4.10.1 version and found I could still make screen shots there. Then, the UP version and found
that working well too. So, that just leaves my beloved DBW that won't capture a screenshot... perhaps I
managed to corrupt a file somehow.

HOWEVER! If this is the only major thing that I can't get out of DBW, then I want everybody to know I am
fine with that. Dark blue World kicks butt and rocks and even a computer noob like me can apply it all if he's
careful and get it to working like no other flight sim I've ever encountered [ and at 50 yrs old I've encountered
them all ].

That having been said, I will look into finding and downloading FRAPS as per SAS-Malone, Thankx man.

Now, please excuse me for tonight as it is time for me to scare myself in Gerds Bearcat... again.
