to takoff from an airfield or aircraft carrier, simply select "takeoff" as the type of waypoint. then, select the carrier or airfield as a "target" for that waypoint.
for the paratrooper bug, see here:

once again, mojo, you are trying to help, which is great, but your advice isn't 100% correct, which will only make things more confusing.
correct - you DO set an aircraft carrier as 'target' for the takeoff point.
you DO NOT set target for a regular airfield. you simply select takeoff point, and if you're close enough to an airfield, the takeoff point will automatically 'jump' to the runway takeoff point. remember, you need at leaast one more waypoint for the plane to take off with, you can't just select a takeoff waypoint with no other waypoints.

go to the difficulty menu. make sure the "takeoffs and landings" light is on.

strange. i've always done it the way i said previously, and its always worked. ur right it sometimes "jumps" to them. i think it works either way.

@mojojo: It always jumps. Given you are within a certain radius of the runway symbol.

@jonster589: Have you had a look a KiwiBiggles FMB tutorials? They are great, fun to follow, and explain almost everything one wants to know about FMB in a step by step manner. If you haven't come across them yet, here you go: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,7.0.html (sticky posts on top).
