50cal Browning MG modified rate of fire for DBW
« on: April 05, 2012, 06:03:47 AM »

I have always (subjectively) felt the 50cals in game are a bit weak (if anyone thinks I am biased, I fly the blue side as much as the red side ;) )

Eventhough things improved with UP30 fantastic revision of guns, I still felt unsure about the 50 cals.

Based on the following estimations of rate of fire, I did this little mod as experiment:

Quote
50cal Browning M2 aircraft gun has a rate of fire of 750-850 rounds per minute = 12.5/second to 14.16/second (13.3 per s as average)
50cal Browning M3 machine gun has a rate of fire of 1150-1250 rounds per minute = 19.16/second to 20.83/second (20 per s as average)

I assume all the guns below as "type M2"

Gun                                  DBW values  (rounds per second)      This mod values  (rounds per second)
MGunBrowning50APIT       gunproperties.shotFreq = 12.5F;            gunproperties.shotFreq = 13.5F;
MGunBrowning50k            gunproperties.shotFreq = 12.5F;            gunproperties.shotFreq = 13.5F;
MGunBrowning50kAPI       gunproperties.shotFreq = 12.5F;            gunproperties.shotFreq = 13.5F;
MGunBrowning50kAPIT     gunproperties.shotFreq = 12.5F;            gunproperties.shotFreq = 13.5F;
MGunBrowning50ki          gunproperties.shotFreq = 12.5F;            gunproperties.shotFreq = 13.5F;
MGunBrowning50kiAPI     gunproperties.shotFreq = 12.5F;            gunproperties.shotFreq = 13.5F;
MGunBrowning50MIX       gunproperties.shotFreq = 10.83333F;    gunproperties.shotFreq = 13.5F;
MGunBrowning50t           gunproperties.shotFreq = 12.5F;            gunproperties.shotFreq = 13.5F;
MGunBrowning50tAPI      gunproperties.shotFreq = 12.5F;            gunproperties.shotFreq = 13.5F;
MGunBrowning50tdual     GunProperties.shotFreq = 25.0F; (12.5x2)   GunProperties.shotFreq = 27.0F;  (13.5 x 2)
MGunBrowning50si         GunProperties.shotFreq = 10.833333F;    GunProperties.shotFreq =  13.5F;

The type "M3" is already at quite a good rate iof fire in UP30/DBW:

MGunBrowningM3           gunproperties.shotFreq = 20F;               -not modified-

Remember this is JUST an experiment, so take it as what it is.

It looks like my favourite Shooting Star became even more shooting star than it was before!...  :)

And it gets better: current F-80C uses wrong M2 gun while in RL it had the increased rate of fire from M3 (this is fixed in next update of the pack).

is it maybe possible to add a mod that the stock game 50s use the normal smokelines of the other mgs ? the modded 50s in the last P51 / F51 have other smoke lines.

Here it is.

I put the zip into sas folder, but it did not work. The F80A appears but did not charge in QMB. Thank you
