Revolution & Plutonium FX 4.10 Help
« on: April 05, 2012, 09:56:28 AM »

I´m not sure if this is the right place to ask

I use this effect mod Revolution & Plutonium FX 4.10 (don´t know where i get it from ) and it is really really great. but has somebody some ideas to make this a little bit FPS friendly ? Ground attacks are a pain in the a..

Maybe some know who created this mod, there is no readme in it :(

It's difficult with ground attacks because turning all those healthy objects/buildings into unhealthy ones seems to stress the  processor as well as the gfx card.  I had some success by hugely reducing the number of particles in the fire effects, but I've only done that for building fires so far, and it doesn't look as pretty.  I have a kind of pulsating blob of fire instead of animated fire.  But then I went and dropped framerates again by adding enormous great colomns of animated smoke!

Basically, even if you had no effects at all I think just the process of replacing all the intact targets with damaged ones will impact your framerate.  New processor and graphics card should help...

Yes you can make this FX FPS friendly, First step config.ini Effects=0 there is no visual difference between 0 and 1 apart from little shadow with you see for 1 sec and this killing your FPS. Step two edit all your FX and reduce number of particle. Step three Install win XP on other partition as second system  remove all not needed service, firewall, ect. That will speed up your game up to 40% And at the end ,if all this not help,  you need upgrade you PC ;)

With your hardware I would go shadows=2 I get no less fps than with1
And for help with ground attack,  Effects=0  it only gets rid of shadows of effects, with fps gain and barely noticeable lack of shadows in explosions

TexCompress=2 and  TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1 will help with Fps, try it, I can barely see any drop in visual quality (depends on monitor/resolution i guess)

Also i get better min FPS with ProcessAffinityMask=15 but this can vary with machine, only way is to test

Hope some of that helps

Cheers Dakpilot

**Edit** If you are flying on maps with barely any/no sea, use  water=2  good Fps gain and possibly better looking river water, may be diff with your card but i also use Nvidia. test them individually to see where you get the gains, also when doing ground attack toggle mirror off, big FPS gain

Another serious help for me was found at Carsmasters light in IL-2 beta. Thread is in Visuals.

The mod itself helped quite a bit with FPS as well as making IL-2 look much better! the thread is a bit confusing but start at the beginning and read carefully and you should get it sorted  :) I'm fairly sure the latest one is: Carsmaster Light in the IL2 (beta)+1536 pix v.2.2.1.7z or you can look for: Carsmaster Light in the IL2 (ALPHA!!!) v.2.3 ALPHA !!! more 4Gb memory (there is a part for the mod/DBW/UP/SAS folder and new DLL's etc. for root of game.

Read the installs carefully, but if I could get it working anyone can  :)

Buried somewhere in that thread is a download of Carsmasters Nvidia inspector settings, grab that, download Nvidia Inspector and apply ALL his settings excactly, i was very surprised and pleased with the results  :) you could maybe later bump up the AA and AS ( i run AA 8xS [Combined: 1x2 SS + 4x MS] and 16X AS with no real loss in FPS, but try his settings first  ;)

A full uninstall of videocard drivers and fresh clean install of the latest ones can have a good effect as well, i was sceptical but it helped me  8)

Cheers Dakpilot

**EDIT** I would have a quick try of Gurners latest effect mod, really nice with good FPS  :)
