[Readme]:
Code: [Select]
-=[Cyrenaica41 V1.0 for DBW & DCG]=-

A dynamic campaign covering events from April to December 1941 centered on the besieged port town
 of Tobruk.

-=[Installation]=-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Unzip "Cyrenaica41" folder and its contents to DCG main folder.

2. Make a backup of your "<< IL2 1946 Folder >>\DGen" folder!
Copy the files from "Cyrenaica41\DGen" folder into your "<< IL2 1946 Folder >>\DGen" folder.

3. Unzip the "PaintSchemes" folder and its contents to your "<< IL2 1946 Folder >>".

4. Start DCG. From the "Files" menu, choose "Optional Third Party Data Folder".
Browse to "Cyrenaica41" folder. Choose the "allcampaigns.dcg" file and click "Open".

5. Choose under "Mode" the option "Replace Career Generator (DGen) and set DCG
to operate in "off Line Career (Full Auto-Generation Mode)".

6. Choose under "Edit" the option "General Campaign Settings" and tweak as desired. Also "Options"
menu. Recommended settings are below under heading "DCG Settings".

-=[Starting]=-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the LW/RA and RAF there are separate Fighter/Ground Attack/Dive Bomber/Bomber pilot careers available.

1. Start IL2 1946

2. Choose a Nation/Service from list above and look for e.g.
   * German Dive Bomber Pilot - Cyrenaica 1941 (DCG)
     or
   * RAF Fighter Pilot - Cyrenaica 1941 (DCG)

3. Click on a Campaign and then "Start"

-=[Notes]=-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Why are some of the Luftwaffe planes not in desert camouflage at the start of the campaign?
Many of the Luftwaffe squadrons were transferred from Italy/Balkans/Greece/Crete and were wearing the ETO/temperate camo scheme used in those operations.
Desert camouflage was added over the summer of 1941 and the timetable.dcg file will do this for the AI planes automatically.

2. As always you have to select your own skin for your plane. Here are the recommendations based on the squadrons available to you via the Career interface in IL2:

German Dive Bomber Pilot: II/StG2
                          Apr-Jun = st_LW_early41_nm.bmp
Jun-Dec = vp_StG2_mid41_nm (the snake is there too, of course)

German Ground Attack Pilot: III/ZG26
                            Apr-Jun = vp_IIIZG26_early41_nm.bmp
Jun-Dec = vp_IIIZG26_late41_nm.bmp

German Bomber Pilot: III/LG1
                     Apr-Jun = vp_IIILG1_early41_nm.bmp
Jun-Dec = vp_IIILG1_mid41_nm.bmp

German Fighter Pilot: I/JG27
                      Apr-Jun = cn_1JG27_early41_nm.bmp
  Jun-Nov = cn_2JG27_mid41_nm.bmp
  Nov-Dec = cn_JG27_late41_nm.bmp

Italian Fighter Pilot: 360/378 Squadriglia
                           Apr-Dec = vp_generic_41_rnds.bmp

RAF Fighter Pilot:
   73Sqn Apr-Dec = cn_RAF_73Sqn_41_nm.bmp
   274Sqn Apr-Jun = jb_RAF_274Sqn_early41_rnds.bmp
   274Sqn Jun-Dec = jb_RAF_274Sqn_mid41_rnds.bmp

3. The campaign is aimed to be as historically accurate as possible however some concessions had to be made to playability, so not every possible squadron
is represented nor are they always at the right airfield due to AI takeoff troubles. Besides, it's a DYNAMIC Campaign so the moment the action starts
events will deviate from history. In particular if you are flying as a RAF pilot you may feel like you are really up against it in terms of opposition numbers
on the ground and in the air. I have included an alternate timetable.dcg file in the alt_files folder which supposes that the Operation Tiger convoy (early May) carried
HurricaneMkIIbs as well as Crusader tanks. Then you can do some ground pounding instead of the interceptions/shipping cover missions that were flown historically. Also,
as we all know, the Stuka isn't the fastest ship in the galaxy so feel free to move your squadron up to Tmimi or Gazala for a shorter flight.

4. If you wish to fly as a (historical) RAF 73 Squadron pilot then for the first two weeks of the campaign you might like to set the action radius down to 50km to keep your missions close to Tobruk.

Hi,
Many thanks for your work and to all the others who were involved!
I think many people will take a breathe now and can expect more campaigns for other areas except the Pacific! ;)

@David Prosser - Not in at the moment. I know they were in the area but the Ba65s were mainly held back in Tripolitania while the Ro37s were used in a reconnaissaince role. So (as stated in the readme) as I couldn't include every squadron I chose the more operationally significant types.

It would be no problem to replace the current recon plane (Bf110C4 of 2H14) with the Ro37 or maybe drop a Stuka gruppe in favour of a Ba65 squadriglia. Also had plans to include the new 4.11 Italian tanks and the Cant Z506 as a recon plane but wanted to draw a line under v1.0 and then get some feedback.

If you have any more information or questions please share them. All feedback is appreciated.

@David Prosser - Not in at the moment.

No problem. Your rationale makes perfect sense.

:-[ Oops! I think I was mixing up the Ba65 and the BR20. The Ba65 went out of service in Feb 41 with Operation Compass. The BR20M was present in small numbers in Cyrenaica during the summer of 41 and if/when DreamK releases his version then I'll add it to the campaign.

Added a patch to first post to allow use of Manysh's retextured map.

Code: [Select]
-=[Cyrenaica41 V1.01 for DBW & DCG]=-

A dynamic campaign covering events from April to December 1941 centered on the besieged port town
 of Tobruk.

-=[Changelog]=-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2012-04-15 v1.0  - Initial release.
2012-05-01 v1.01 - Updated to work on Manysh's retexture.

-=[Notes]=-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. You will probably have to start a new campaign due to the changed routes that vehicles will use.

2. Uses the following path to the load.ini - Libya/JV69_M_load.ini if you have changed the folder name from Libya in your install
then you will have to manually update line 2 of the .mis files in the download with your new folder name.

-=[Installation]=-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Unzip "Cyrenaica41" folder and its contents to DCG main folder. Overwrite if asked.

2. Copy the 11 files from <<DCG Folder>>/Cyrenaica41/alt_files/ManyshRetexture to <<DCG Folder>>/Cyrenaica41 and overwrite if asked.

3. Start a new campaign in IL2.

Nice, thanks for making good use of my (now quite frightfully old) skins!  Been waiting for a campaign like this, downloading now.  Do I need to have 4.11?  I have the SAS Big Huge Ass Pack over a clean install.  But it looks like it just takes the game to 4.10.1.

Thanks!

Hi jbunnelle,

Thanks for your Italian Stuka skins.

DBW and 4.10.1 was what it is built for so you should be good to go.

Hope you have some fun.
