The planes on that site look fantastic, mojojojo. But with a 25-30000 poly count, that would be too much for IL2 wouldn't it?

cheers

Just watched an interesting movie, "into the white" about a German and a British aircraft who shot each other down and spent several days together on a tiny hut on a mountain side. The movie never goes into detail about the battle, and starts with both crews already on the ground. So I looked up the (true) story, and turns out the British aircraft was a skua! Interestingly, the terminology used in reference to this and its cousin the Blackburn ROC, often refer to them as heavy fighters! I read that a single Blackburn ROC was sometimes attached to the tail end of Skua formations where with its heavier armament and versatile turret, it acted as a gunship to support and cover the flight. Cool stuff! I hope this plane gets some interest one day.

An english dive bomber? Skua
« Reply #34 on: February 01, 2014, 04:22:50 PM »

The Blackburn B-24 Skua. Land and carrier based English light/dive bomber.

I don't have a lot of information but I have just finished to read about the attack of a german cruiser (Königsberg) by the skua and then I remember that there is no english dive bomber in IL-2 1946.

If it could interrest someone here that could create plane and don't have any project now, it's a good project (i think :) )

(Sorry for my not perfect english :P )

the Skua would be cool to have;
yes, it did sink the Königsberg early in the war, but the same squadrons that sank her were shot to pieces only a little later while attacking the Scharnhorst IIRC;
basically, they were a flawed concept as they should double as fleet defense fighters, a role they were quite unsuitable for...
nevertheless, it was a Skua that shot down a Do-18 on the day the war started, being the first British aircraft to down a German aircraft in the war...

for British dive bombers, there is a franken Fairey Barracuda...
I would love to get a Vultee Vengeance though, maybe the best dedicated dive bomber, the Allies came up with in the war, besides the superb SBD Dauntless of course
