there's really nothing to it, since it's nowhere near accurate to the real thing.
Just don't go too fast or the chopper will shake violently.

But what can you tell us you're really having problems with?

It does not use a "normal" control set up. The actual thrust is "vectored" by using the joystick.

With the stick in the centre you get vertical lift. Applying power is like pulling up on the collective, the rotating wings bite and you get lift ....  but remember the torque reaction so you need to apply some rudder to counteract the tendency for the fuselage to rotate as the power is applied. This is also true in real life.

As you gently ease the stick forward the thrust translates into two axis (actually Z and Y ) and you get some forward movement at the expense of lift. so you need to apply slightly more power to maintain height. (If it helps, think of it as a single engine pointing upwards ).

It is all about sensitive control inputs and lots of practice. The genius behind the coding was Sani, he effectively brought the helicopter into the game within the very real limitations of the game engine. There is a price to pay and that is a loss of stability - hence the speed wobble. This is why it was never possible to achieve effective VTOL behavior ... before you ask  ;)

I hope this helps

I wonder why the principle of heli in Il2 cannot be the basis of modding Harrier or Yak-35 ? By adding 2nd engine-(and swithching between the engines)  for forward thrust, it might be quite viable, I suppose.

yes, i can picture how this would work, even though, for the harrier, wouldnt it be best to actually use three engines? (one for level flight, one for STOL, one for VTOL)

Afaik stol comes from a strong engine and lift. so no need for an extra engine if i'm correct, just the main engine has to be strong enough ;)

I always thought that the best choice would be to modify il2 stock Heinkel Lerche.
It have everything to become a successful heli.
It simulates VTOL pretty well (With stabiliser for noobs only  8) )all it needs is to reduce power.
Is there anything that prevents it from becoming base for ill2 heli?
Asking because this plane looks like obvious choice but all chopers using something else as a base.
