I already started work on Lavochkins and Yaks, they will be ready in 1-2 days.

... I agree with FlatSpinMan, the 109 must be the only AC that shows such enormous holes in its fuselage, and I would not bet that in real life a 109 could fly in such a state ...!!  ::)

The thing that bugs me is that the original texture artist didn't know what s/he was doing. There is a frame under the Bf-109's skin which isn't modeled at all, and big, perfectly round "bites" out of the fuselage and wings aren't realistic for most types of bullet/cannon shell hits.

 I played around with trying to produce better looking damage textures for the Bf-109 series a few years ago, but I could never get it to look right. In the hands of a better skin artist, it would be the work of a few moments to alter the alpha channel to get the right "shredded aluminum" look, as opposed to the "swiss cheese" look that the current damage textures have.

can you point me out that hole in the Bf-109 damage textures?
imho you can not make holes using damage1o or damege2o.tga...

Thank you for updating these original damage layers, its little (Big!) things like this that keep IL-2 alive  :)

IMHO the giant shark bites out of the Bf-109's really could do with a look at, this would greatly increase immersion

I know that, I just wanted to know if he knows :)

To be honest I just did not want to make my mod incompatible with FBDSM and my own existing default skins + I dont feel like redoing 50-60 default skins because one hole + they would increase download size to a few hundred megabytes.

Imho you need to produce your own default skin set (at least summer,winter,eto,desert,mto) for a mod which would make the holes disappear and that would result in a ~600Mb download just to do the stock 109 types.
Plus you have to edit each alpha channel manually in these skins which would mean at least 400-500 files...and after you finished you would be stuck with these default skins for forever unless you wanna repeat the whole procedure again...but good luck. Also I can be wrong and you may figure out a better method.
