Looking for these MODS...
« on: May 06, 2012, 04:21:04 PM »

Looking for MODS that..

-lets ships go close to shore
-tone down quad 20mm german flak, esp Turpitz (looks odd always has)
-allows vehicles cross any water, so I can make bridges any where
-turn off the airfield icons so I can have 10 a/c take off together side by side (like many did)
-allow destruction of objects anywhere
-allow a/c to stay in game if zero fuel is set - so real a/c can be straffed and not disappear
-88mm flak that explodes below 250m
-Objects objects objects :D

Nice advice. Have never tampered with the mission files though. So I go to FMB, place a/c waypoints in, place ship in FMB somewhere, and then go to mission files and swap the co-ordinates - top stuff!

In the objects list in the FMB, I found an airfield object that can not be seen, I have found that it creates a smooth terrain anywhere it is placed and I can actually take-off and land without the bumpy ride.

As for the objects, I place an object into a FMB map, then choose 'Destruction' from the 'View' menu, right click the object and choose 'destroy object'. This will place the object as 'destroyed' which will not catch fire or smoke when hit by munitions. But....and here's the 'but', when I do all of the above I sometimes can not destroy the object because it is perhaps too far away from the destruction areas which are highlighted by green - these are generally city and town areas. No big deal, I just can't use some very nice areas on maps...I'll survive.

I will look at the map kit, tutorial and friction Mod though, sounds very nice, very interesting.  Thanks KiwiBiggles, good advice :)

This helps a bit with toning down the AA in certain circumstances, also has the very nice side effect of making the crew run away and take cover, when taking close hits during ground attack giving you about one minutes respite, looks cool as well, when you get a glimpse of the crew scarpering as you pass overhead after a strafing run  ;)

Not sure I would like to be fireing an 88mm with shells exploding 250m above, could expect some self inflicted casualties  ;D

Know wht you mean, but there's a lot of low Flak watching footage of Kamikaze being shot at. Distance from artillery would be greater than 250m. Not sure how Flak worked, by altitude or time, or both,  have to check it out. Have lots of books on AAA, but nothing mentions the bloody ammunition or how it worked.

The easiest way to tone down ship AAA is to increase the firing rate of the ship under its properties tab in FMB. The logic is a bit backwards but if you increase the number the firing rate will be lower. The number affects the reloading rate for the guns. 0 is regular reload rate, 5 is, well, five times slower.

Of course if you're a masochist you can set it to 0.1  :P

Oh dear :(

I put IL2 1946 (stock game) on this laptop, just to see if I could place ships near the shore using above mention advice but I can not open the mission file: asks me to 'search the web for software'...download free file opener but still no go. Not as simple as it seems......eeeuuuurghghghg :-[

......uuuur,god!! :o Why didn't I think of note pad f#ck...stupid friggin computer saying it can't open the file in the first place! I hate asking stupid questions....

I'll back up any mission file before I start editing, but is there anything that I should be totally aware of.....?

Now, I'm a bit off topic, but you did respond to an earlier question of mine about searching for threads....is there a way to find my 'new topics' that I started, that have good advice but I can't find, as some of them contain links to the things I would like to do.

This is the reason not to get 'off topic'; you start discussing 'ships' and end up discussing 'flight models' etc

thanks HZG

:)I would say the same thing. But, apologising when it really really is a stupid question.....well, I just had to!

Someone gave me the heads-up on how to modify aircraft waypoints, and assign them to ships in the mission folder, to get them to go near land...I've tried quite a few times but the ship ain't movin.
